Earth, officially the Earth Federation (E.F.) and sometimes known by the initial "E," is an interstellar nation governing Earth, the Solar System, its colonies, and inhabitants since the early twenty-third century. It was established following the Great Garmillas War, which led to significant technological advancements for the Earthlings but also brought them to the brink of extinction. As a relatively new interstellar state, the Earth Federation maintained cordial relations with the Greater Garmillan Empire and continued to do so with its successor, Galman-Garmillas until late 2207.

Initially, the federation adopted heavily militaristic policies; however, the Gatlantis Campaign of 2202 and 2203 challenged it both militarily and ethically, prompting a shift away from its aggressive foreign stance.

During the escalating tensions between Garmillas and the Bolar Federation, the Earth Federation chose to remain at a safe distance from its ally, seeking to avoid becoming involuntarily involved in another conflict.

As of October 2207, the Earth Federation has come under the occupation of Dezariam, a nation that claims to be Earth's successor state from the 32nd century. This takeover followed years of infiltration into Earth's political, military, and business sectors by sympathizers of Dezariam. The country has successfully manipulated public opinion to foster anti-Garmillan sentiments, effectively isolating Earth from its foreign ally.

History[]

Founding and rebuilding the Earth[]

Earth Federation president speech

The Earth Federation's first president gives a speech in 2202

After the Great Garmillas War, the Earth underwent a period of reforms.[10] The United Nations was dissolved and replaced with the Earth Federation, which worked to unite all national governments under a single federal one.[11][N 1] While this transition process would take years to be completed, only ending by 2205, by the 2202, the E.F. had already named its first president.[12][11]

2202TimeFault

The time fault factory in 2202

During the war, the Earth's biosphere had been destroyed by constant bombing. Luckily, the Cosmo Reverse System, an alien device gifted to the Earthlings by the Iscandarians, saved the planet. The activation of the device created a singularity under the planet's surface, where time was dilated tenfold. This area was discovered in 2201[13] and a military factory was immediately constructed to exploit the time distortion and help reconstruct the Earth at a faster rate. The time fault and the factory were both kept under military secret. In the same year, the Earth Federation government and military announced the wave motion gun fleet plan, which was meant to refurbish the depleted United Nations Cosmo Force with warships armed with wave motion guns. This project went against a clause in the armistice between the Greater Garmillan Empire and the Earth, which had been imposed by the Queen of Iscandar for the Earth to receive the CRS, and banned all applications of the Wave-motion Theory in the military field.[14] However, the armistice had been signed by the captain of a battleship, who hadn't been given full authority to negotiate a deal on behalf of the Earth. Thus, the Earth Federation Defense Force ignored the accord as a mere verbal agreement. Nonetheless, the plan was opposed by many, both inside and outside the EF, most notably by the crew of the space battleship Yamato, which had brought the Cosmo Reverse System to the Earth, and by Admiral Ryu Hijikata of Space Defense Command.[12][15]

After the activation of the CRS in 2199, the E.F. worked on rebuilding the planet's surface, but progress was slow. The Far-East District quickly became the economic and political center, benefiting from the reconstruction, while other areas lagged. Locations like Moscow still had their populations living in underground cities in 2202.[16] The workers involved in reconstruction faced hardships and began protesting for better pay and working conditions, organizing strikes in industrial areas like the Bōsō District.[17][16]

The Earth Federation also began building friendly relations with the Great Garmillas Empire's new government and signed a mutual security agreement with it. The treaty gave the Earth access to various colony worlds the empire had no use for in exchange for selling slots of the time fault factory. A Garmillan embassy was also opened on the Moon, with Loren Burrell, signatory of the peace treaty with Garmillas, being named its ambassador.[12][15] These were considered the Earth's first step into intergalactic politics.[18] However, the new peacefull relationship with Garmillas was not accepted by all citizens. An organization known as the Anti Earth-Ga Security Alliance Committee was founded in Moscow, and by 2202 it began organizing strikes worldwide, while also financing the Destruction Liberation Army, a terror group that opposed the Garmillas Empire's government.[16]

Around the same year, the government began lifting its monopoly on interstellar travel, with the launch of the first large warp-capable civilian cargoship setting sail.[17]

The Andromedas' launch and Teresa[]

Andromeadaheadon

On December 2, 2202,[18] the Greater Garmillan Empire invoked the mutual security treaty with the Earth to retake its 8th Floating Continent, which had been seized by the Gatlantis Empire. The Earth's forces had already clashed with Gatlantis in late 2199 when a Gatlantean governor attacked the Yamato. The joint forces of Garmillas and Earth struggled against the Gatlantean fleet, especially after the empire sent out its new warship model. However, they managed to secure a victory, albeit a costly one, with the implementation of Plan A and the launch of Andromeda, the first battleship of its class, which served as the flagship of the Cosmo Navy and was the first ship produced in the time fault to ever be launched. Despite Andromeda quickly eliminating most of the enemy force with its wave motion gun, the new Gatlantis battleship survived and traced the warp signature of two Earthling cruisers, thereby locating the position of Earth and threatening it with a suicide run. The warship was ultimately destroyed in orbit thanks to the timely intervention of the Yamato, which was being repaired in an underwater dock.[19]

Burrell Earth president

Burrell pressures the President into pardoning Yamato

Six days later,[18] the E.F.G. President participated in a naval ceremony celebrating the launch of four other ships of the Andromeda-class. The ceremony was held in the Earth's capital and was attended by dignitaries of the Earth and Garmillas, including Ambassador Burrell and exponents of the military-industrial complex. Both Burrell and the Earth government had discovered that, in the aftermath of the joint operation, the former crew of the Yamato had received a vision from the goddess Teresa calling them to her planet. Burrell assisted the crew's acting captain, revealing him the existance of the time fault and meddling with the President to make him ratify Yamato's journey to planet Terezart when the ship took off on December 25,[20] despite HQ's orders to stand down.[6][12][15][21]

War comes to the Solar system[]

Battle at the 11th planet[]

Planet 11 bombing

The 11th planet is bombed

As Yamato's insurrection unfolded, the Gatlantis Empire attacked the 11th planet of the solar system, a joint colony of the Earth Federation and the Greater Garmillan Empire. All communications with the Earth were cut off, and the outgunned local forces were almost wiped out, with only a handful of civilians managing to escape to a makeshift refuge in a mine. A lone cosmo marine broke through the Gatlantean blockade to seek help and was rescued by Yamato. HQ ordered the battleship to stay put since Garmillas' authorization was needed to carry out any military action in the joint colony. However, Yamato once again disregarded its orders and independently led a rescue operation, taking on board all survivors. Despite the battleship's crew's aversion to the wave motion gun, they were forced to fire it to destroy the enemy fleet. Still, at the suggestion of a Garmillas Embassy attachée, they chose to fire the weapon at the planet's artificial sun, causing a reaction that deactivated the invading fleet.[22][23][24]

The civilians were later transferred to a Garmillan patrol fleet and were brought back to the Earth. They were interned in a quarantine facility on the Moon, and their testimonies convinced the Earth Federation Defense Force's leadership that war with Gatlantis was inevitable.[25]

Operaton S: Total War[]

Uncf investor meeting

The leaders of the UNF discuss the coming war with investors

With the Gatlantean threat closing in, and confirmation from Yamato that the White Comet, a massive mobile object that had been observed travelling toward the Earth in the previous months, being the empire's capital, the Earth military began putting countermesures in place to prepare for a full invasion of the solar system.[25][26] The so-called Operation S was put in place and various defense lines were prepared between the outer and inner solar system. The time fault factory began building warships at a faster-than-ever-before rate, and new classes were put into service to feed the evergrowing Earth war apparatus. In early May 2203,[13] following a series of skirmishes in the outer planets and the asteroid belt, the private and public sectors were united at the suggestion of General Kotetsu Serizawa, leading to a full transition to a war economy. This led civilian contractors, such as Domon Hightech, to start working inside the time fault.[26][27][28]

Dreadnoughts Saturn rear view

The battle at Saturn

On May 8,[18] the Gatlantis Empire's primary fleet battled the UNCN forces at Saturn. With the help of the Garmillas military, led by Ambassador Burrell, the Earth Federation managed to put a halt to the Gatlantean andvance, and thanks to the combat data obtained, they began fielding more advanced and automized weapons. An escape plan was also put in place in case the total losses of the joint forces reached 50%.[25][29][30][31][32]

The White Comet and the Gatlantean Seventh Mobile Fleet fly over the capital

Despite the Earthlings' efforts, on June 2,[18] the line of defense on Mars was broken through, and the White Comet reached the Earth. The Gatlantis Empire bombed the Earth capital, issuing an ultimatum to the EF leaders and declaring full control of the planet.[33] However, Yamato, backed by the Garmillas military and the forces of Supreme Leader Abelt Desler, who had defected from the Gatlantean side, launched on a last assault against the empire, aiming to activate a device that could kill all Gatlanteans instantly, which Emperor Zworder kept hidden in his throne room.[31][34]

Ark reactivates

The Ark of Destruction, fully reactivated at last

The attack was successfull, but in a surprising turn of events, the Gatlantis sovereign activated the device himself and fused with the White Comet, reactivating it to its full potential as the Archelian Ark of Destruction. The Ark blasted the surface of the Moon, tearing it apart, and made its way to Saturn to absorb its core and gain enough energy to wipe out all life on the Earth. However, Teresa managed to descend from her dimension to regular space and, together with Yamato, rammed the Archelias superweapon, destroying it and saving the Earth.[34][35]

Post-war reconstruction and the referendum[]

Yamato resurfaces

Yamato resurfaces in the time fault

After the end of the war, the Earth Federation earnestly began reconstructing. The military's expansion was not stopped by the end of the conflict, and the time fault continued to churn out automatized warships. The fault also played a significant role in the rebuilding of the capital. On December 8, 2203,[18] the thought-to-be-destroyed Yamato reemerged in the time fault after spending six months in Teresa's dimension. A plan was drafted to rescue two officers who had remained stuck in the higher dimension after the battleship's descent, but to activate it, an almost infinite amount of energy would be needed to send a rescue vessel beyond the dimensional boundary. Such power could only be obtained by collapsing the time fault, hence losing its properties.[36]

Sanada speech referendum

Lt. Com. Shiro Sanada's speech before the referendum

The EF Cosmo Fleet's commander, Captain Osamu Yamanami, supported the project, having come to hate the militarist policies of the Earth Federation. Once again, thanks to Burrell's mediation, the truth about the time fault was publicly revealed, and a referendum was held over whether or not to sacrifice it. In the end, the idealism brought forth by the former Yamato crew won over the Earth's citizens, and the time fault collapsed to propel Yamato into the higher plane of existance. The rescue mission was successfully completed on December 31, 2203.[18][36]

Garmillas, Bolar and the prospect of war[]

With the time fault out of commission, the Earth was forced to change its military policy and scale down its military in accordance with the new Fourth Defense Plan.[37][38] In 2204, the Greater Garmillan Empire announced the Garmillas Migration Plan, a project to migrate the entire population of the dying planet Garmillas to a new world. The Earth Federation pledged its full support to the cause, and offered the empire a new model of civilian transport.[11]

Peacecorps

However, things changed when in early 2205 the empire announced the destination of the migration plan, planet Garmann. The world was a perfect copy of Garmillas' ecosystem, making it the only viable candidate for long-term migration, however, it was under the control of the Bolar Federation, an autoritarian intergalactic state that held territory inside of the Milky Way. Given Bolar's vicinity to the E.F.'s territory, the federation was hesitant to aid Garmillas out of fear of being dragged into another conflict. To fully display its pacific foreign policy, the Earth planned to send the Yamato, the symbol of its demilitarization, and its new fleet on a peace mission to the Salezar system, home to Garmillas and Iscandar. For this mission, a delegation made out of Ambassadors Burrell and Serizawa, and Captain Yamanami was created and scheduled to depart on October 2.[11][39]

Around the same time, in January of 2205, the unification process on Earth was completed, and the Earth Federation became the sole government of the planet.[11]

Save Iscandar! Rebellion of the Young Heroes!!

Yamato and its fleet arrive at Iscandar

While Yamato was en route to Salezar, planet Garmillas was attacked and destroyed by an unknown enemy, later identified as Dezariam.[40] Without any information on the attack's perpetrator, the Earth Federation refused to send any fleet to help the surviving civilians out of fear of triggering a conflict with Bolar. For the same reason, HQ forbid Yamato's corps, the closest to the Magellanic Cloud, to continue its journey. However, after a mutiny on board and at the subtle suggestion of the delegation's members, the fleet refused to execute its stand down order and embarked on yet another unauthorized mission.[27]

The Dezariam Invasion of Earth[]

Bolar's incursions and Dezariam's attack[]

A Bolar fleet performs a territorial incursion near the 11th planet

In the following years, the Bolar Federation began carrying out regular incursion in the E.F.'s territorial waters, forcing the Earth Federation Defense Force to partly sacrifice the principles of the Fourth Defense Plan.[38] At the same time, Dezariam entered in contact with various of key figures within the military, financial and political world of the Earth Federation, convincing them to switch to their side in preparation of a coming Dezariam invasion of Earth. Forseeing the danger and keeping track of the movements of these Dezariam sympathizers, General Serizawa and his direct superior, General Commander-in-Chief Heikuro Todo, began planning Operation DAD, a secret operation to fight back against the invaders.[9][41]

Grand reverse lands

Citizens watch as the Ground Reverse lands in the New Capital

In October of 2207, during a routine incursion by the Bolar Federation Frontier Patrol Fleet 584, a Dezariam space fortress, the Ground Reverse, moved into the Solar system and broke through all of Todo and Serizawa's lines of defense. With the help of inside sympathizers, the Dezariam Army defeated all countermeasures and landed in the New Capital. The President was evacuated, and Air Force 1 assumed control of the government as the battle raged near the capital. Selected members of the Cosmo Force evacuated Earth to continue Operation DAD while Defense Force members loyal to Dezariam withdrew from the battlefield and sent out an official government announcement stating that Dezariam was not carrying out an armed invasion. Earth HQ was stormed by the sympathizers, and the planet fully fell under the aliens' occupation.[9][41]

Under Dezariam's occupation[]

Earthlings watch Skulldart's broadcast

A crowd of Earthlings watches Skulldart's broadcast

After their occupation, Dezariam's holy leader, Skulldart, delivered a public message that was broadcast throughout the solar system. He revealed that his people were Earthlings from a millennium in the future who had returned to the past through a temporal rapture located at the center of the Milky Way. Skulldart warned that in the future, a spatial rapture would open at Saturn, leading to Earth's destruction in an event known as the Great Loss. Dezariam had come back in time to create a functioning Cosmo Reverse System and to rewrite history by preventing the rapture from occurring.[8]

As Skulldart spoke live, a Bolar fleet that was encroaching on Earth Federation territory was unexpectedly annihilated by Dezariam forces. This event, combined with the growing mistrust of the current president's government, led to a rapid increase in support for Dezariam among Earth's citizens.[8]

The Earth Federation officially began collaborating with Dezariam after a presidential decree recognized the faction as an advisory organization to the Earth government. This decree was approved by Congress on the same day it was issued. At the same time, the Dezarian General Kazan was appointed to oversee the Dezariam Army's occupational forces on Earth[42] and effectively took control of the Earth Federation Defense Force.[43] Other officers were assigned to control specific regions, such as Major Alfon for the Far East.[8]

To assist in the creation of the CRS, Dezarian civil engineers and their families migrated to Earth, settling on a plot of land outside the New Capital that was temporarily granted to them by Congress, thanks to the manipulations of the president of Nanbu Heavy Industries, a key figure among Dezariam sympathizers named Kozo Nanbu,. A ceremony was held to welcome their arrival, attended by the president, senior military officials, Nanbu, and other officials.[44]

Operation DAD goes on[]

Serizawa and Todo hear reports of the Alpheratz

While apparently collaborating with the invaders, Generals Todo and Serizawa coordinated a task force, led by the Yamato, which was to continue Operation DAD clandestinely. In order to complete the Cosmo Reverse, Dezariam would need to capture the two "fragments of Iscandar": Yamato, which originally housed the CRS in 2199, and Sasha Iscandar Kodai, the daughter of the late Queen Stasha Iscandar. While they managed to track down and kidnap Sasha, who was being held aboard the Yamato, they failed to take the battleship. The Yamato then moved out toward the galactic center, in order to reach the time rift and find out if Dezariam's claimed origins were indeed the truth. The supply carrier Asuka instead returned to Earth to begin setting up a resistance against the invaders.[44][45]

Civil unrest[]

The partisans rebellion[]

To better integrate into Earth society, the children of Dezariam were enrolled in Earth’s elementary schools. This initiative was announced in a public broadcast by Holy Leader Skulldart's aide, Sada.[46]

Yasuo and Kozo Nanbu Ground Reverse

A state function was organized at the Ground Reverse, attended by both Dezariam and the leadership of the Earth Federation. During the event, a group of partisans launched an attack on the fortress and managed to infiltrate it. Led by Yasuo Nanbu, the son of Kozo Nanbu, the partisans attempted to burn Van Gogh's painting "Starry Night," which was housed at the Ageha Memorial Museum of Art, during a live broadcast. They believed that if they destroyed the present version of the painting, the future version, located at the Ground Reverse, would not disappear. This act was intended to disprove Dezariam's claim that they were Earthlings from the future. Yasuo argued that if they were indeed future Earthlings, they would have already ceased to exist, claiming that the grandfather paradox made time travel impossible. The partisans also displayed images of the crew that had been affected by the Hyperon Bomb.[47]

Skulldart intervened, asserting that the crew had been inadvertently harmed by the Ground Reverse's defensive field. He revealed that Dezariam was aware they would eventually disappear and had returned to the past to experience life on Earth, fully understanding that correcting history would lead to their deaths. With his persuasive speech, he managed to convince one of the partisans not to destroy the painting, while the remaining rebels escaped.[47]

Skulldart went on to assure the public that the injured crew members would be healed. He also introduced Lieutenant Megumi Kanzaki, an officer of the Earth Federation Cosmo Navy, who had suffered brain death during the Invasion of the Ground Reverse but had reportedly been successfully revived. This series of events ultimately led to greater acceptance of the Dezarians among the public.[47] Kanzaki became the poster child for Dezariam within the Earth Federation,[48] and Com-Medals distributed by Dezarian children began to spread among Earthlings.[47]

Rise in anti-Garmillas sentiment[]

New Capital terrorist bombing

News coverage of the terrorist bombing at Ichigyo City

To create a rift between Earth and its foreign ally, Galman-Garmillas, Dezariam executed a false flag terrorist operation by planting a bomb in Ichigyo City, a suburb of the New Capital, and falsely claimed it had been detonated by a Garmillan suicide bomber. The attack resulted in over 1,000 deaths.[7]

Anti-Gamilas protest

An anti-Garmillan protest

In a public broadcast following the attack, Sada and Skulldart stated that Dezariam acknowledged the Garmillans' resentment over the destruction of their homeworld but expressed hope that they could be forgiven, just as the Earthlings had forgiven Garmillas for the devastation caused during the Garmillas War. This tragic event, along with their statements, sparked a surge in anti-Garmillan sentiments, with many people rejecting the notion that Earth had forgiven its invaders. Garmillan citizens soon became targets of violence in the streets, and anti-Garmillas protests erupted.[7]

Eventually, Ambassador Loren Burrell of Galman-Garmillas, personally urged the President of the Earth Federation to issue an order for the expulsion of all Garmillan citizens. Both were sympathetic to the anti-Dezariam movement, and Burrell feared that if the president did not align with public sentiment and Dezariam's views, he might lose his position, which would put the underground resistance led by Commander Heikuro Todo at risk.[7]

Ageha Museum explosion

The Ageha Museum explodes

As the exile of the Garmillans from Earth was underway, Dezariam organized a diplomatic event at the Ageha Museum of Art, attended by representatives from both the Dezarian and Earth governments. Unbeknownst to attendees, a communications room located beneath the museum was being used as a headquarters by anti-Dezariam forces coordinated by Todo, who had been forced into retirement and reassigned as a military advisor. The event was targeted as part of a false-flag terrorist operation orchestrated by Dezariam. Explosives were planted within the building and detonated. The attack resulted in the deaths of 213 individuals, including members of both governments. Prior to the explosions, Dezariam broadcast a fabricated audio message attributed to Lieutenant Yasuo Nanbu, thereby framing the Partisans for the incident.[49]

Adjutant Sarda was believed to have been killed in the explosion. A public memorial was held in her honor, during which Skulldart delivered a speech that incited a mass frenzy among Earthlings to begin using Dezarian com-medals to connect directly with the Dezarian AI, Mother Dezariam.[49]

In the aftermath of the attack, the Earth Federation Government Congress convened an emergency session to discuss the declaration of martial law.[49]

Future history[]

This section outlines the future history of Earth based on the chronology provided by Dezariam. Since the Great Loss caused Dezariam to lose a significant amount of historical data, is a rough reconstruction of events, which may result in some inconsistencies.

Wars with the Bolar Federation[]

According to Dezariam's account of the future, in 2215, the conflict between the Galman-Garmillas Empire and the Bolar Federation escalated, leading to the Earth Federation's involvement when Bolar declared war. This marked the beginning of the First Intergalactic War,[8] the initial conflict of the Great Galactic War.[50]

The war concluded with a ceasefire four years later,[8] but the larger conflict continued for approximately two centuries, alternating between periods of ceasefire and open warfare.[50] In 2232, the Earth Federation and the Galman-Garmillas Empire established the Sagittarius Treaty Organization, an international alliance.[8] In 2241, four years after the founding of the Perseus Treaty Organization by Bolar, a Second Intergalactic War broke out. In 2152, the Earth Federation declared war on Bolar once again, which resulted in the destruction of Earth's southern hemisphere by an interplanetary ballistic missile in 2255. The following year, the Earth Federation sent a re-established Dimensional-Wave Cannon Fleet to the North Galactic Region. However, in 2266, a ceasefire was successfully negotiated between Earth and Bolar, with mediation from Iscandar.[8]

The Galactic Warring States period[]

The Galman-Garmillas Empire fractured in 2301, following the death of Abelt Desler decades earlier,[8] which had intensified factionalism within the nation.[50] Around this time, the Galactic Warring States period begun, compelling Earth’s civilization to undergo significant transformations to ensure its survival.[50] In 2309, the Dimensional-Wave Cannon Fleet Maintenance Plan was initiated, one year after a terrorist attack by the Zaltzi Emancipation Organization targeted the Milky Way and the Large Magellanic Cloud. In 2322, the Earth Federation began to promote diplomacy through the aggressive use of wave motion guns.[8]

Calaklum being scrapped for parts together with Aldebaran

A Gatlantean Calaklum-class and the battleship Aldebaran being scrapped together by Dezariam after the lifting of the ban of use on Gatlantean resources

To defend itself, Earth resumed the unrestricted use of AI.[50] In 2384, the Unlimited Strategy AI "Dezariam" was completed and would play an increasingly vital role in the centuries to come.[8] Project G, a remnant from the Gatlantis Campaign, was also revived as Project G2, which advocated for the mechanization of certain humans for military purposes.[50] This initiative made use of the wrecks of the Gatlantis Army still present in the solar system after the ban on using Gatlantis resources was lifted in 2435.[8] Gatlantean resources were additionally utilized to construct a vast naval force supported by a universal conscription system.[50]

Earth as an interstellar superpower[]

In the year 2491, the Earth Federation took the lead in establishing the Force for Galactic Order Preservation. Five years later, it chaired the Thirteenth Galactic Peace Conference.[50]

Due to resource shortages and the necessity to preserve the Earthling species, the defensive measures undertaken by the Earth Federation under the Project G2 became increasingly aggressive. Subsequently, Project G3, which advocated for active wave motion gun diplomacy, was approved.[50] By 2517, the final draft of the Proposal to Strengthen the Military based on the Project G3 was published.[8] At this point, the AI Dezariam had taken full control of the nation.[50]

The Great Loss

The opening of a spatial rupture on Saturn greatly damaged planet Earth, and caused the collapse of its hegemony

This foreign policy ultimately resulted in the absorption of numerous interstellar nations into Earth's sphere of influence, leading to the establishment of a federal entity known as the Earth Empire. However, this hegemony collapsed following the opening of a spatial rupture[50] in 2798,[8] which nearly destroyed the Earth and caused the extinction of almost all life in the solar system.[8] In the aftermath of this catastrophe, Dezariam emerged as a new successor state to the Earth Empire.[50]

Government and Politics[]

EFG President

The first president of the Earth Federation in late 2202.

The Earth Federation is an interstellar nation headquartered on Earth, with its New Capital located in Japan. It claims jurisdiction over the entire solar system and various colony worlds that were granted to it by the Greater Garmillan Empire.[19][12][15] One interstellar area of activity of the Earth Federation is the Perseus Arm.[17]

The Earth Federation continues to operate the territorial divisions previously established under the United Nations, such as the Far-East District[16] and the North American District.[51]

The Earth Federation Government President[52] leads the Earth Federation, assisted by the Earth Federation Government[53] and its offices, including the Science Bureau[54] and the Security Bureau.[21] The president's official residence is the Presidential Building. In case of emergency, the head of state can evacuate from a private transport named Air Force 1, which then immediately assumes the function of seat of the government.[9]

Legislative authority is vested in the Earth Federation Government Congress which holds the power to make law[44] and declare a state of war.[55] Justice is administered by a judicial branch headed by the Grand Court, the highest court of law in the Earth Federation.[12]

Military matters are handled by the Earth Federation Defense Force, with the Earth Federation Cosmo Force being responsible for defense and offense against threats from beyond Earth.[19] The Earth Federation also operates the Coastal Police[9] and the Public Security Police.[16]

As of October 2207, the Earth Federation has fallen under the occupation of Dezariam, a nation claiming to be Earthlings from the far future of 3199. They have been declared a "special advisory organization" to the Earth government by both the president and Congress, and have taken over the regular chain of command of the Earth Defense Force.[8]

Society and Culture[]

For more details, see Earthlings.

The Earth Federation is a diverse country that is home to almost[34] the entire Earthling species.[12] Until at least 2205, the various nation-states that made up the pre-Great Garmillas War Earth were still active under the federal executive but gradually gave up their powers in favor of full unification.[11]

In addition to its already diverse population and the novelty of a united Earthling race,[56] the E.F. also has a substantial population of Garmillas immigrants,[56] especially in the years after the destruction of the 11th planet's joint settlement. While post-war resentment against the Garmillas people exists, with at least one organization opposing them[57] and xenophobic graffiti seen in the streets of the capital in late 2202,[12] Garmillan citizens have since integrated within the Earth Federation's society.[56][58]

By at least 2207, government messages are broadcasted in both Earthling and Garmillas languages.[9]

Yamato has become a powerful symbol for both the Earthling and Garmillan citizens of the Earth Federation. Having saved both peoples during the Great Garmillas War,[59][60] it has come to symbolise hope and defiance against enemy threats.[58]

Symbol of Earth Federation

Greyscale logo of "The Symbol of Earth Federation"

Vexillology[]

The Earth Federation uses an emblem representing the solar system surrounded by two branches and bearing the writing "The Symbol of Earth Federation". Much like the United Nations' logo, the symbol is usually light blue.[12][6] As of 2207, the E.F. also uses the United Nations' original logo, displaying it in a variety of colors.[8]

Behind the scenes[]

The official description for Heikuro Todo for Space Battleship Yamato 2199, seen both on the official website and on various publications, erroneously refers to the UN as the "Earth Federation".[61] The abbreviation "E," 地 in Japanese (which is the first character in the Japanese word 地球 meaning Earth), is used in the first Yamato 2202 side story[62] and in the 018 Yamato Crew trading card "E-G Diplomats."[63]

The first symbol for the Earth Federation in the remake continuity remains the same as the one used in the original series continuity.[12][64]

  1. The UN were seemingly still in existence as far as February 2201 from what transpires from Robert Redrowz's document seen in "Shock – Legacy of the Cosmo Reverse". However, since the United Nations Forces continued to use the UN logo and name after the founding of the Earth Federation it remains unclear when exactly that transition took place.
