The Ditz faction[4] is a faction within the Imperial Garmillas Defense Force loyal to Astro Fleet supreme commander, Admiral Gul Ditz, as well as a revolutionary movement born in opposition to Supreme Leader Abelt Desler's government. It joined the Garmillas Civil War following Ditz's arrest orchestrated by Imperial Marshall Herm Zoellik. It opted not to interfere with the Earthling space battleship Yamato on its campaign against the Greater Garmillan Empire, and following the fall of the Desler administration, it sided with Prime Minister Redof Hiss's Provisional Government.
History[]
Unrest within the empire[]
By 2199, contrasting ideologies and turmoil between moderates and hardliners had emerged within the Greater Garmillan Empire and its military.[5][6][7]

Admiral Gul Ditz in prison
In an attempt to gain control of the country and restore the old aristocracy, Imperial Marshall Herm Zoellik, Inspector General of the Central Army, attempted a coup against Eternal Supreme Leader Abelt Desler and managed to blame his rivals within the Astro Fleet, General Admiral Domel and Supreme Commander Gul Ditz. After Zoellik's treachery was revealed, Domel was granted freedom, but Ditz remained incarcerated. He was kept prisoner on Leptapoda, an imperial prison planet. The Imperial Guard doubled down and began arresting officers loyal to Ditz on false charges,[8] such as Lt. Colonel Kaulles Helder.[1][7][9]
Freeing the Admiral[]

Melds Ditz meets with Narkin and Dolmen
In the wake of Ditz's unjust arrest, Captain Orto Dolmen and Lieutenant Lance Narkin began moving to free him from Leptapoda. Following Helder's arrest, they met with the Admiral's daughter, Lieutenant Merda Ditz, and the group began planning an uprising on the prison planet. With the help of a double agent within the prison camp's personnel, they sneaked onto the Planet under the guise of a surprise inspection. They then liberated the camp's prisoners, causing a riot that allowed them to free Admiral Ditz and fully take control of the facility.[1][10][9]
Dealing with Yamato[]

The Ditz faction and Yamato delegations meet
Following the takeover of Leptapoda, Admiral Ditz was joined by Elisa Domel, wife of Admiral Domel and anti-government collaborator. Together with Merda, they met with officers from the Earthling space battleship Yamato, which had been caught in the uprising. While it was impossible for the two sides to immediately put aside their differences and fight together, Ditz agreed on a non-aggression pact and offered information on the inner workings of Garmillas to the battleship's crew. His daughter also decided to board Yamato, serving as a liaison between the Ditz faction and the Earthlings.[2][9]
The faction then left Leptapoda on a journey to liberate other prison planets.[2] Ditz went on to become a central figure in the Anti-Desler movement.[11]
Amnesty and reconstruction[]

Ditz and Elisa Domel in September of 2199
Following the fall of the Desler administration on June 26, 2199, a new provisional government took office. Ditz and his faction were pardoned from the new regime, and the Admiral was reinstated as Supreme Commander of the Astro fleet. He and Elisa Domel became official members of the provisional government.[3][12][13]
