This article is about dimensional faults in general. For the dimensional fault seen in Star Blazers 2199, see dimensional fault (2199); for the one appearing in Star Blazers 2202, see dimensional fault (Archelian ruin).

A dimensional fault
Where dimensions intersect. In other words, a dimensional fault?
—Juzo Okita, to Shiro Sanada[1]
A dimensional fault is a pocket of subspace[2] that forms when subspace intersects with regular space,[1] caused by the breakdown of the dimensional boundary layer.[3] The opening in space that leads to a dimensional fault is known as a dimensional rift.[1]
Dimensional faults can occur naturally or be artificially engineered.[4] One such fault in the Milky Way Galaxy existed by the year 2199, trapping various vessels until the Earthling space battleship Yamato and the Garmillan battlecruiser EX-178 collaborated to escape from it.[1]
The Archelias civilization, possessing advanced knowledge of subspace,[5] created at least one artificial dimensional fault, which was maintained by a crystalline structure located at its core.[4]
The formation and rapid collapse of a series of dimensional faults is part to the firing process of the Dezarian Infinite β Cannon.[3]
