We are Dezariam. Weaklings who will not remain in the pages of history..."
"Begone!
—Supreme Commander Meldarz and captain Deda, to the Earth-Garmillas joint fleet[4]
Dezariam, alternatively spelled Dezarium, is an interstellar nation that, according to its inhabitants, emerged from the remnants of Earth after the Great Loss of 2798. Its people, known as Dezarians, are primarily a mechanical race, the result of the artificial evolution of the Earthlings. The nation is centered around the eponymous planet, Dezariam.
In 3184, after retrieving a ship from the past carrying the Iscandarian-Earthling hybrid, Sasha Iscandar Kodai, they discovered a Spacetime Node that linked the Sea of Torment of their time to the galactic center in the early 23rd century. They traveled back in time with the goal of completing a Cosmo Reverse System to restore their timeline's dying Earth.
They first went back to the year 2205 and executed the Iscandar Transfer Plan, which involved stealing the planet Iscandar and utilizing the knowledge stored in the underground vault the Sanctel. This initiative was part of their "Thousand Years Dream," which they assert to be the completion of the CRS. They also claim that they intended to use the device to heal their present's Earth. However, their plans where thwarted by the combined military action of Desler fleet and the 65th Escort Corps in an event later known as the "Iscandar Incident".
Between 2205 and 2207, Dezariam established connections with key figures in Earth's economic, military, and political spheres. They then returned to October 2207 and occupied the planet. Their objective is to capture two essential elements known as the "Fragments of Iscandar": the space battleship Yamato and Sasha Iscandar Kodai, to transform their fortress, the Ground Reverse, into a functioning Cosmo Reverse. Following their invasion, they were legitimized as an advisory body to the Earth Federation's government.
History[]
Origins and the Great Loss[]
The Earthlings artificially evolved into artifiicial humans
According to the history of the Earth recounted by holy leader Skulldart, the Earthlings artificially evolved using technology from the defeated Gatlantis Empire, after two centuries of brutal interstellar conflict. The ban of use on Gatlantean resources was lifted in 2435, and a revival of Project G, named Project G2, was proposed, involving the mechanization of a limited number of Earthlings for military purposes. While these measures, along with the construction of a powerful conscripted navy, were initially undertaken for self-defense, Project G3 marked a shift toward a more aggressive policy during what became known as the Galactic Warring States period. By this point, Earth was governed by the Unlimited Strategy AI DEZARIAM <ver. 1.0>,[5] which had been completed in 2384. This artificial intelligence was eventually replaced by Mother Dezariam, which went online in 2541.[1] Around this period, a federal state that could be referred to as an "Earth Empire" emerged, formed through the assimilation of various previously independent interstellar countries.[8]
Unknown matter washes over Earth during the Great Loss
In 2798, a spatial rupture opened near the Sea of Torment, the former location of planet Saturn. This rupture was caused by the extensive use of Wave-motion Guns during the Battle of Saturn in 2203. An unknown type of matter poured out of the rupture, sweeping across the solar system and inflicting immense damage, nearly destroying Earth and rendering it uninhabitable. The disaster surpassed any previous event in recorded history.[1]
The spatial rupture wiped out every living being on Earth that had not been mechanized.[7] Since the mainframe of the AI Dezariam was located on the planet, all historical data it had stored was also lost in an event which became known as the Great Loss. As a result, reconstructions of past events were based on speculative dates.[5] Among the information that was lost was details about the space battleship Yamato, which had played a significant role in the history of the Earth Federation and the Earthling race as a whole.[9]
In 2799, Mother Dezariam declared a state of emergency throughout the Solar System,[10] and with its empire dissolved, Earth began a slow recovery.[5] Although the matter that had poured out of the rupture eventually stopped, it was recognized that this happened by mere chance. It was understood that if the rupture continued to expand, it would engulf the entire universe.[5]
Phase Armor was the result of reasearch carried out after the Great Loss
After a century of studying the rupture, researchers failed to find a way to close it. However, their efforts led to the development of technology based on phase energy, such as Phase Armor, which completely replaced wave motion energy, now considered a cursed power.[11] This new technological advancement became the driving force behind Earth's transformation into the new nation of Dezariam.[5] To survive in the now unhabitable Solar System, the Earthlings began to mechanize in mass, giving birth tothe Dezarian race. By 3001, all Earthlings had accepted to evolve into Dezarians.[10]
First time travelling attempts[]
For this topic in more detail, see Iscandar Incident
At the beginning of the fourth millennium, reasearch on the rupture also determined that another catastrophic event would happen in around one century.[8] By developing new cutting-edge warships, Dezariam managed to impose itself as a military power, but no solution to the coming catastrophe was found.[8]
Dezarian forces over Iscandar, as it is towed away
The Dezarians began to research the possibility of time travel through Spacetime Nodes. After half a century of research,[8] in 2184, a Pleiades-class battleship from the future was found within the Sea of Torment. Aboard, was the Iscandarian-Earthling hybrid Sasha Iscandar Kodai, who hailed from the early 23rd century. Dezariam discovered that the warship came from a future invasion force sent by them to the past through a spacetime node that was then soon located.[12]
Several unmanned explorations, followed by a manned exploration, confirmed that the node linked to the Milky Way Galaxy's core, 40,000 light-years away and around 1,000 years into the past. Using phase technology, Dezariam fixed the Spacetime Node leading to the early 2200s.[1][8]
With the goal of creating a Cosmo Reverse System to seal the rupture at Saturn and restore the damaged Earth, in 3198, the Magellan Dispatch Force of the Dezariam Army, led by Supreme Commander Meldarz, was assigned to carry out the plan. In their effort to capture Iscandar, the Dezarian forces destroyed the planet Garmillas. They later justified this loss by claiming it was an acceptable sacrifice, as the planet would have been destroyed anyway by a Bolar Federation attack in 2357.[2][13]
The Yamato, together with another Earthling ship and numerous Garmillan vessels, exchanging fire with Dezariam
Their operation was opposed by a Garmillan fleet headed by Supreme Leader Abelt Desler, and by the Earth Federation's 65th Escort Corps, led by the space battleship Yamato.[4][9][13][14][15] In the end, Meldarz's forces were defeated and destroyed by planet Iscandar's self-destruction.[16]
Occupation of Earth in 2207[]
Planning and forming alliances[]
The battles against the joint Garmillas-Earth forces gave Dezariam data on ships and naval combat of the past, which they had lost with the Great Loss. This led to a reorganization of the naval forces and tactics of the Dezariam Army.[17]
Without any way to get their hands on Iscandar, Dezariam massively changed its policy, drafting the History Revision Plan. Dezariam would collaborate with the Earth Federation of the past and close the rapture before it could manifest, avoiding the Great Loss and the centuries of tragedy that followed. Changing history on such a scale however, could have unforseen consequences. Either the present of the fourth millennium would be erased, or it would survive as a branched timeline. Mother Dezariam believed the first option to be more likely to happen, but Dezariam chose to go through with the plan at the risk of getting erased from history.[8]
Shino Todo led the Dezariam sympathizers on Earth
At the same time, a new plan aimed at creating another Cosmo Reverse was outlined: capturing the Yamato along with the infant Sasha Iscandar Kodai. They identified these two elements as the "fragments of Iscandar"—remnants of the Iscandarian civilization that could assist in completing a crude recreation they had made of the CRS, the space fortress Ground Reverse. Iscandar-Kodai, as the daughter of the late Queen of Iscandar, Stasha Iscandar, embodied the element of the Iscandarian Royal Family; and the Yamato was equipped with an original wave motion core that had been built on planet Iscandar, and had served as a crucial component of a Cosmo Reverse System. The CRS would be used as an alternative mean to close the rapture. Mother Dezariam chose to maintain this second plan a secret, and only informed selected officers.[2][8]
In 3199, a bridgehead was built at the other side of the Spacetime Node, in the year 2206, complete with an intermediate supply base. The Dezarians infiltrated the Earth Federation's networks and contacted the Earth government, revealing their origins as Earthlings from the future and warning about the impending Great Loss. Their messages were ignored, but certain political and business figures, as well as high-ranking military officials,[18] began to collaborate with them. Led by Space General Shino Todo,[19] the Dezariam sympathizers began laying the groundwork for the forthcoming Dezarian invasion, loyalists within the Earth Federation Defense Force, such as Commander Heikuro Todo, began strategizing countermeasures.[18]
In case the Earthlings of the 23rd century refused to collaborate, Dezariam chose to deploy the Ground Reverse, equipped with the functions of a Hyperon Bomb, disguised as a repair tool. In case of rebellion, the bomb would detonate and damage the Earthlings' brains with electrical interference, making synaptic activity impossible. This would live them alive and able to perform basic activities, but would remove their wills. They would then be connected to the Dezarian bio-network, turning them into a terminal for their hive mind.[8][7]
Dezariam had records of their own interference in the timeline thanks to Iscandar Kodai,[12] however, they chose not to disclose this information to the Earthlings.[20]
Taking control[]
Skulldart broadcasts the history of future Earth
In October 2207, the Ground Reverse broke through the Earth Federation's lines of defense and landed outside of the New Capital.[21] Despite Todo's best efforts, his headquarters were stormed by the Dezariam sympathizers, and Dezariam successfully seized control of the planet.[19] Holy leader Skulldart descended on Earth and met with Todo and his deputy in the Ground Reverse. He then made a broadcast throughout the solar system, in which he revealed Dariam's origins and intentions publicly, stating they'd work to close the spatial rift at Saturn before it could open, and sharing his intention to organize a body to advise the Earth government. During the broadcast, a Bolar Federation fleet attempted an incursion in Earth Federation territory, but was rapidly destroyed by Dezariam forces, further increasing public support for the group.[1]
A crowd of Dezarian immigrants at the welcoming cerimony
Quickly after the takeover, a presidential decree made Dezariam a special advisory organization to the Earth Federation Government, and the order was accepted by Congress on the same day. Officials were appointed to control certain areas of Earth's military occupation for the 2207 Earth Occupation Plan.[22] The land outside of the New Capital, surrounding the Ground Reverse, was also allotted to Dezariam by order of the diet, in exchange for Dezarian technology. Dezarian civil engineers and their families began migrating to Earth and were welcomed with a cerimony attended by numerous officials, including the president.[7]
Dezariam had effectively taken over both the civil government and military hierarchy. However, certain military units and officers continued to resist this takeover. Todo provided little to no assistance in Dezariam's attempt to seize the Yamato, which resulted in it destroying one of Dezariam's space fortresses, and Mother Dezariam grew frustrated with the Earth government lack of collaboration. Meanwhile, Todo was secretly organizing a special task force centered around the Yamato, led by Admiral Osamu Yamanami, to oppose Dezariam. Additionally, the two aimed to foster the beginnings of a resistance on Earth.[23] Their operations were conducted covertly and were concealed by the Ageha Group, a large corporation.[7][22]
To avoid possible terror attacks, the Dezarians issued an order to remove the wave motion cores from ships currently docked in construction, with at least one ship's dismantling being facilitated by the Space Cavalry, much to the soldiers' and officers' reluctance.[23]
Hunting the Yamato[]
Alfon kidnapped Sasha Iscandar Kodai and an officer looking after her, Lt. Commander Kaoru Niimi
After escaping Dezariam's first attempt to seize it, the Yamato, carrying Sasha Iscandar Kodai, discovered the ships of a fleet that had encountered Dezariam's Ground Reverse during its invasion, and had been hit by the Hyperon Bomb.[7] After another battle against the pursuing Dezarian battleship Grodez, the Yamato chose to travel toward the Spacetime Node to discover the true identity of Dezariam.[23]
As Mother Dezariam had reiterated that history could not be changed without Iscandar Kodai, the Grodez and the Intelligence Division Major Alfon planned to infiltrate the Yamato and kidnap her. The operation was successful, and Mother Dezariam made a broadcast to all Dezarians informing them that a new page of their history would be written. She urged them to change "that which should be changed", and to ask themselves the reason they were there.[23]
Iscandar Kodai was then left in the care of a damaged Pleiades-class battleship, which then attempted to travel to the year 3199 through the subspace node, but ended up crashing im 3194, thus connecting the "circle of time".[12]
Civil unrest on Earth[]
The partisans rebellion[]
Dezarian children are interviewed beforetheir first day of school
To better integrate into Earth society, the children of Dezariam were enrolled in Earth’s elementary schools. This initiative was announced in a public broadcast by Holy Leader Skulldart's aide, Sarda.[20]
Yasuo Nanbu holds his father at gunpoint in front of a broadcast of the two Starry Nights
A state function was organized at the Ground Reverse, attended by both Dezariam and the leadership of the Earth Federation. During the event, a group of partisans launched an attack on the fortress and managed to infiltrate it. Led by Yasuo Nanbu, the son of Kozo Nanbu, the partisans attempted to burn Van Gogh's painting "Starry Night," which was housed at the Ageha Memorial Museum of Art, during a live broadcast. They believed that if they destroyed the present version of the painting, the future version, located at the Ground Reverse, would not disappear. This act was intended to disprove Dezariam's claim that they were Earthlings from the future. Yasuo argued that if they were indeed future Earthlings, they would have already ceased to exist, claiming that the grandfather paradox made time travel impossible. The partisans also displayed images of the crew that had been affected by the Hyperon Bomb.[24]
Skulldart intervened, asserting that the crew had been inadvertently harmed by the Ground Reverse's defensive field. He revealed that Dezariam was aware they would eventually disappear and had returned to the past to experience life on Earth, fully understanding that correcting history would lead to their deaths. With his persuasive speech, he managed to convince one of the partisans not to destroy the painting, while the remaining rebels escaped.[24]
Skulldart went on to assure the public that the injured crew members would be healed. He also introduced Lieutenant Megumi Kanzaki, an officer of the Earth Federation Cosmo Navy, who had suffered brain death during the Invasion of the Ground Reverse but had reportedly been successfully revived. This series of events ultimately led to greater acceptance of the Dezarians among the public.[24] Kanzaki became the poster child for Dezariam within the Earth Federation,[25] and Com-Medals distributed by Dezarian children began to spread among Earthlings.[24]
As these events played out, Sasha Iscandar Kodai escaped from the Dezariam main planet to the 23rd century.[12] During the escape, she was aided by her foster mother, who had been kidnapped with her 15 years prior, Kaoru Niimi. Niimi had developed a program to reset Mother Dezariam, and before dying during the escape attempt, she managed to entrust it to Iscandar Kodai.[26]
Rise in anti-Garmillas sentiment[]
News coverage of the terrorist bombing at Ichigyo City
To create a rift between Earth and its foreign ally, Galman-Garmillas, Dezariam executed a false flag terrorist operation by planting a bomb in Ichigyo City, a suburb of the New Capital, and falsely claimed it had been detonated by a Garmillan suicide bomber. The attack resulted in over 1,000 deaths.[27]
In a public broadcast following the attack, Sarda and Skulldart stated that Dezariam acknowledged the Garmillans' resentment over the destruction of their homeworld but expressed hope that they could be forgiven, just as the Earthlings had forgiven Garmillas for the devastation caused during the Garmillas War. This tragic event, along with their statements, sparked a surge in anti-Garmillan sentiments, with many people rejecting the notion that Earth had forgiven its invaders. Garmillan citizens soon became targets of violence in the streets, and anti-Garmillas protests erupted.[27]
Eventually, Loren Burrell, the ambassador of Galman-Garmillas, personally urged the President of the Earth Federation to issue an order for the expulsion of all Garmillan citizens. Both were sympathetic to the anti-Dezariam movement, and Burrell feared that if the president did not align with public sentiment and Dezariam's views, he might lose his position, which would put the underground resistance led by Commander Heikuro Todo at risk.[27]
Terrorist attack at the Ageha Museum[]
As the exile of the Garmillans from Earth was underway, Dezariam organized a diplomatic event at the Ageha Museum of Art, attended by representatives from both the Dezarian and Earth governments. Unbeknownst to attendees, a communications room located beneath the museum was being used as a headquarters by anti-Dezariam forces coordinated by Todo, who had been forced into retirement and reassigned as a military advisor.[28]
The Ageha Museum explodes
The event was targeted as part of a false-flag terrorist operation orchestrated by Dezariam. Explosives were planted within the building and detonated during a concert led by Adjutant Sarda. The attack resulted in the deaths of 213 individuals, including members of both governments. Prior to the explosions, Dezariam broadcast a fabricated audio message attributed to Lieutenant Yasuo Nanbu, a key figure within the Partisans, thereby framing the group for the incident.[28]
An Earthling crowd fights over a batch of Com-Medals
Adjutant Sarda was believed to have been killed in the explosion. A public memorial was held in her honor, during which Skulldart delivered a speech that incited a mass frenzy among Earthlings to begin using Dezarian com-medals to connect directly with Mother Dezariam.[28]
In the aftermath of the attack, the Earth Federation Government Congress convened an emergency session to discuss the declaration of martial law.[28]
Government and Politics[]
Dezariam is a nation originating from the early fourth millennium.[1][8] The members of the nation, known as Dezarians, claim to be descendants of Earthlings.[1] Their current home is the planet Dezariam, the Earth from their future.[4]
Mother Dezariam
All Dezarians possess artificially constructed bodies that are interconnected through a system of com-medals, forming a bio-network. At the apex of this hive mind is Mother Dezariam, an exceptionally advanced artificial intelligence that controls the country.[7] The members of Dezariam seem to hold the AI in high reverence.[1][7]
Mother Dezariam appointed Skulldart as the faction's holy leader, designating him as her figurehead.[1] In this role, Skulldart also oversees the Dezariam Army, the country's military forces, with the assistance of his adjutant, Sarda.[3][29]
After their time travel to 2207, Dezariam has been recognized as a special advisory organization to the Earth government.[2] During their time in 23rd-century Earth, the group is headquartered at the Ground Reverse[1] and has been allocated a plot of land outside the New Capital of the Earth Federation, where its citizens have relocated.[7]

Behind the scenes[]
The sketches shown in the Space Battleship Yamato 2205 Complete Works use the name "Dark Nebula Empire" to refer to Dezariam, much like its original series counterpart. However, it's unclear if the name will return to be used for the faction.[30] The official English subtitles only use the spelling "Dezarium".[21] The official spelling "Dezariam" is seen on various merchandise pieces for Be Forever Yamato: REBEL 3199[31] and on screen.[1] The spelling "Dezarium" is seen once in episode 8 of the series.[32]
The group is also mostly referred to as "the Dezarium" in the English subtitles, using the name of the species rather than the faction itself.[1][4][9]
