This article is about Desler's group during Space Battleship Yamato 2202: Warriors of Love and Space Battleship Yamato 2205: A New Journey. For the his faction in the Civil War Over the Rights of Succession, see Abelt Desler Main Faction.
The Desler fleet, also known as the Desler faction,[10] was a military force under the command of Abelt Desler, the former Eternal Supreme Leader of the Greater Garmillan Empire. It was founded as part of the Gatlantis Empire's military when Emperor Zworder rescued Desler and decided to give him a fleet to fight against the Earthling space battleship Yamato.
However Desler had no intention of being Zworder's lap dog, and he secretely contacted his remaining supporters on Garmillas and ammassed a considerable military force loyal to him. His initial objective was to retake control of his empire. He also seeked to use Terezart as a bargaining chip to force Zworder to give him a new planet, where the Garmillans could migrate to avoid Garmillas's impending demise. However, after his plan failed and his supporters on Garmillas were captured, Desler continued to serve Gatlantis in the hope of still obtaining a new planet.
Eventually, in 2203, he would permanently defect Gatlantis and fight together with Yamato. The same year, the Desler fleet made peace with the new garmillan government and the two began collaborating on the Garmillas Migration Plan, eventually leading to the Planet Galman Liberation Operation against the Bolar Federation. The Desler fleet played a major role in the Iscandar Incident.
Organization[]
Under Gatlantis[]

Desler's fleet under Gatlantis
Under the Gatlantis Empire, the Desler fleet was composed of 4 Lascaux-class Assault Cruisers, Desler's flagship Neu Deusura, and multiple personalized Needleslaves. While Desler formally headed the formation, he was kept under the close supervision of Emperor Zworder's spokesperson, Mil, who relayed the Leader's every move to the sovereign. After the Battle in Subspace, Desler's flagship was joined by a vast number of supporters from Garmillas and gained full independence from the empire. Additionally, Lieutenant General Ghader Talan became the Leader's second in command. However, after failing to capture Terezart, Desler was forced back into servitude to Gatlantis, but it once again gained independence after Desler's last battle with Yamato.[1][11][4]
2203-2205: Alliance with Garmillas[]

The Desler fleet in late 2203
Following the end of the Garmillas Civil War, the Desler fleet began collaborating with the Garmillan government and was substantially scaled down. However, it was joined by personnel from the regular forces, including the ships and crews of the Dimensional Dive Strike Group headed by Commander Wolf Flakken. The Berger Fleet was created as a subdivision of the fleet under Commander Fomt Berger. Talan also officially became the fleet's commander, while Desler continued to lead the formation as Eternal Supreme Leader. After the destruction of the Neu Deusura, a Super Gelvades-class Astro Transport Ship built by the Garmillas Empire became Desler's flagaship, before being scuttled and replaced by Deusura III during the Planet Galman Liberation Operation.[5][12]
History[]
Desler's exile[]

Mil and Desler aboard Neu Deusura
After the fall of his regime over the Greater Garmillan Empire, Eternal Supreme Leader Abelt Desler was rescued by the Gatlantis Empire and came to serve under Emperor Zworder.[13][1] In early 2203,[6] he was granted a fleet and a personalized flagship by the Emperor and was deployed to destroy a rebellious fleet in his name. While formally the commander of his forces, aboard his flagship was Mil, Zworder's spokesperson, who communicated with the Emperor via Cosmo Wave and constantly reported Desler's move.[14]

Not wanting to serve as the Emperor's lap dog, Desler secretly entered into contact with his supporters on Garmillas. Among them was Lt. General Ghader Talan, former Deputy Chief of Staff, who came to head a large fleet of warships that had gone AWOL after Desler's fall from power.[11] To meet up with his new fleet without Zworder knowing, Desler staged his next mission, an ambush against the Earthling battleship Yamato, inside a dimensional fault where Mil's Cosmo Wave did not work. Despite his failure at stopping Yamato, Desler successfully joined up with his real fleet, and by using pieces of an Archelias structure previously held inside of the dimensional fault, he managed to stop Mil's telepathy semi-permanently and hold him hostage inside of Neu Deusura.[14][15]
Taking Terezart[]

Desler's next move was to take control of planet Terezart, home to the goddess Teresa, which the empire wanted to use to extract its unique energy. The planet had been conquered by Gatlantis in 2202,[16] but on March 26, 2203,[2] Yamato liberated it from its occupation. The Desler fleet stepped in and imposed a blockade around the planet. Unexpectedly, Desler's nephew Ranhardt, who secretly belonged to the Desler Regime Revivalists, a group of political criminals aiming to reestablish the Desler Regime, met him on the planet. Hydom Gimleh, the former Director-General of the Imperial Guard and the mastermind behind the revivalist faction, immediately contacted Desler after hearing the news. He ensured Desler his men's support and the two plotted an uprising on planet Garmillas that would allow the dictator to retake his throne. However, Ranhardt was actually a secret agent for the Garmillas Provisional Government, and had only gone along with the Revivalits' plan to find out the identity of their elusive leader. Having found out the information he needed, Ranhardt betrayed his uncle and rejoined Yamato's crew. Desler effectively left his nephew's actions undisturbed, as he freed the Earthling battleship and departed from the planet with them.[11][3]
As Yamato was leaving, Teresa made her planet untouchable, taking away Desler's leverage on Zworder and forcing him back into servitude to the Gatlantis Empire.[3][17]
Switching sides[]

Neu Deusura faces off against Yamato
On June 1st,[2] Desler attacked Yamato for the last time, following Mil's orders. The Gatlantis Empire promised the Garmillans a new homeworld identical to their dying planet if Desler could sink Yamato. However, Desler refused to involve his men in the fighting and faced Yamato alone with his Neu Deusura which was only staffed by a skeleton crew made mostly of androids. Yamato's crew managed to storm the flagship, and Desler was once again confronted by his nephew. Mil proposed a deal to the younger Desler, that if he shot down his uncle, the Gatlantis Empire would abandon its destructive campaign against Earth and Garmillas for the next ten millennia. However, Ranhardt refused to play Mil's game and begged him not to do it. During a confrontation with Yamato's tactics officer Susumu Kodai, Mil had an epiphany on the Gatlanteans' nature as humans and attempted to convince Emperor Zworder to sue for peace. Unfortunately, the young Gatlantean was accidentally killed by a rescue team sent by Talan, destroying the last chance of peace between the Gatlantis Empire and humanity.[4][18]

Desler ensures Keyman his support for the coming battle
After this encounter, Desler finally decided to end his conflict with the Earthlings and the Garmillas government. Instead, he accepted to collaborate with them for their common goal of ensuring the survival of the Garmillan race. He provided the Yamato with his Neu Deusura, which they used as a shield to protect themselves from the negative side effects of shooting the Transit Wave-motion Gun during the Golem Assault Battle.[19][8]
Searching for a new home[]

Desler is welcomed on his new seat in late 2203
Desler immediately informed the Garmillas Provisional Government on the fact that planet Garmillas was slowly approaching its end. Despite some intial diffidence on the government's part, a survey of the planet's core confirmed Desler's preoccupation and the two factions agreed to put aside their differences to work together to find a new homeworld that could sustain permanent Garmillan migration. The Desler fleet underwent serious restructuring, with members and units of the regular forces joining it on their journey. Desler was also granted a Super Gelvades-class Transport Ship as his new base of operation, and a new battle carrier that could serve as his seat of power was also begun contruction.[20][21]

The Desler fleet during the Planet Galman Liberation Operation
Eventually, Queen Stasha of Iscandar secretely leaked information regarding the existance of planet Garmann, the original lost homeworld of the Garmillas species, which had fallen under the brutal occupation of an interstellar power called the Bolar Federation, to the Desler fleet. Desler established contact with the people of Garmann and began working to negotiate the control of the planet and the independence of its peoples with the federation, in the meantime, knowing that the negotiations could have failed at any moment, he began to make plans to liberate Garmann by force. In 2205, the Supreme Leader formally met with the Bolar Governor-General of the planet, Vilke Boroze, to negotiate. Boroze refused Desler's proposition and demanded the Garmillas became Bolar's slaves. The Desler fleet thus began an operation to liberate Garmann, which took the federal forces by surprise and was successfull in housting Borroughs from the planet. With Garmann safely under Garmillan control, Desler and his fleet left to escort the migration fleet that was departing from Garmillas.[5][20]
Fighting Dezariam[]

Desler's forces battle over Iscandar
As the Desler fleet was en route to Garmillas, the planet was attacked and destroyed by an unidentified enemy, later identified as Dezariam. As the planet collapsed, Desler led a rescue mission to attempt to save as many citizens as possible, but was forced to pull back. The 100,000 survivors of the immigration fleet landed on Iscandar, but the planet was forcefully pulled out of its orbit by the Dezarian forces and was warped toward the Vorzon system. The Desler fleet pursued the moving planet and battled Dezariam in its orbit to protect the refugees. During the battle they were joined by the Earthling 65th Escort Corps, led by Yamato.[22][23]

The Desler fleet during the Second Battle of Iscandar
After a failed attempt at rescuing the civilians via dimensional dive, Queen Stasha brokered a ceasefire between Dezariam and the Garmillas-Earth forces. In order to destroy the invaders and not let them get their hands on Iscandar, she decided to self-destruct the planet, which would cost both her and her sister's lives.[24][25] The civilians and the joint-fleet were allowed to leave, but Desler refused to let the Queen die and embarked on a suicide attack against the enemy's flagship. In order to rescue both the Supreme Leader and the members of the royal family, the rest of the Desler fleet and the 65th Escort Corps led one last attack against the Dezarians. Stasha was successfully rescued, but was forced to destroy Iscandar, causing her death. However, just before dying, she managed to see Desler one last time and bid him farewell.[25][7]
With the survivors out of harms way, the Desler fleet and the Earthlings went their separate way, with Desler heading to Garmann to begin reconstructing.[7]
