The Giant Battleship (巨大戦艦, Kyodai Senkan) is the main battleship type used by the warlike and mysterious Denguil Empire. It serves as the primary capital ship within the Denguil Fleet.[1]

Armament and Specifications[]

The Denguil Battleships serve as the primary capital ships of the Denguil Fleet and can also operate as limited aircraft carriers.[1]

They are heavily armed with multiple gatling guns, Impulse cannons, and large-scale beam weapons capable of destroying entire fleets or even massive colony stations. Their combined firepower makes them among the most formidable and intimidating warships in the Denguil arsenal.[1]

Despite their large size, these vessels are notably agile and possess advanced warp systems that allow them to evade powerful enemy attacks, including the Wave Motion Guns used by Earth's battleships.[1]

History[]

In 2203 A.D., after the flooding of the Denguil homeworld by the water planet Aquarius, Emperor Lugal led the surviving Denguil fleet into exile. Many Giant Battleships served under his eldest son, Lugal de Zahl, who commanded one as one of his three flagships.[1]

During the Denguil attack on Earth, Lugal de Zahl’s fleet—composed of several Giant Battleships—destroyed numerous evacuation ships and a colony station before advancing toward Earth. The New EDF Battleships and New EDF Heavy Cruisers attempted to intercept the Denguil forces, but Lugal de Zahl ordered his fleet to warp out after deploying Hyper Rad Missile Deliveryships launched from nearby Missile Ship Carriers in a surprise ambush. Following the destruction of the Earth fleet, his forces pressed their assault on Earth, devastating planetary defenses, cities, and civilian populations. Only the Yamato and nine New EDF Destroyers survived the engagement.[1]

During the Battle of Pluto, much of the Denguil fleet—including many Giant Battleships, Denguil Medium Battleships, and their single Denguil Super Carrier—was docked at the Denguil Mobile Fortress for refueling and final preparations to destroy the Yamato. However, their location was detected by Susumu Kodai and Yuki Mori, allowing the Yamato to launch a counterattack that destroyed most of the Denguil armada. Humiliated by this defeat, Lugal de Zahl retreated to report his failure to his father.[1]

In the final Battle of Aquarius, Denguil forces launched one last attack against the Yamato but were completely annihilated. Lugal de Zahl attempted to escape but was executed by Emperor Lugal for his repeated failures.[1]

Known Vessels[]

  • Supergiant Battleship Garunborst – Served as General Lugal de Zahl’s flagship during the assault on Earth’s defenses. Although identical in design to the standard Giant Battleship, it was designated with a unique name to denote its status as his personal command ship.[1]

Behind the Scenes / Trivia[]

  • The design of the Denguil Battleship and other Denguil mecha was created by Yutaka Izubuchi, who later worked on Space Battleship Yamato 2199.[2]
  • A 1/2400-scale garage kit (including a small fighter bonus model) of the Denguil Battleship was released by Okayama Modelers in the mid-1980s.[3]
