DWG.229 Melanca Astro Fighter/Attacker is a single-seat multirole fighter/attacker astrocraft featuring a flying wing design. It is extensively used by the Garmillas military and the Imperial Guard.

The DWG.229 Melanca is a carrier based plane equipped aboard Pormelia-class Astro Assault Carriers. It has high mobility thanks to its boomerang-shaped design. It's equipped with six 13mm machine guns and six missile hardpoints that can be used to carry either air-ground or anti-ship missiles. It's a single-seat craft.[2]

On February 10, 2199,[3] at least eigth DWG.229 Melancas were launched from a Pormelia-class to attack the United Nations Cosmo Force's Lunar Base[4] and a 20th century shipwreck where suspicious activity had been detected. After the Polmeria-class was destroyed by the battleship Yamato, the Melancas were engaged and destroyed by the 810th Air Squad of the Homeland Air Defense Corps.[1]

In mid 2199, hundreds of Imperial Guard Melancas were deployed to bombard the rebellious provincial planet Alteria.[5] In July 2199, at least forty-three Melancas were launched by three Pormelia-classes to attack Yamato during the Battle of the Imperial Capital but were intercepted and engaged by the Yamato Squadron.[6]

- DWG.229 shares part of its designation and aircraft design with the Horten Ho 229 jet-powered flying wing designed by the Luftwaffe of Nazi Germany during World War II.[7]
