DMB.87 Snuka Astro Dive Bomber is a 2-man dive bomber astrocraft used by the military of the Greater Garmillan Empire and the Galman-Garmillas.

Armaments and specifications

The Snuka was originally a dive bomber that performed well in the atmosphere, but was modified to be operable from a carrier. It was mainly used to attack enemy ships from directly above and below, but with the deployment of heavy fighters and the increased production of torpedo boats, it was mainly deployed in border areas.

The Snuka is equipped with 2 missiles and 6 anti-ship bombs attached under the wings, and a ball-mounted remote-controlled twin rear machine gun turret was installed for defense. The crew consisted of a pilot and a bombardier, with the bombardier in the rear seat also serving as the gunner for the twin rear machine gun turret.

The coloring is based on the national defense color (dark green) of the machines assigned to the mainland air defense unit and front-line bases during the Greater Garmillan Empire era, but the camouflage color is different.

History

In June 11, 2199, a squadron of Snukas deployed from Guipellon Class Multiple Flight Deck Astro Carrier Lamvea led by Lieutenant Commander Fomt Berger was sent to carry out a surprise attack on Yamato using warp. Believing the entire aerial strength of Yamato was busy engaging the DWG.109 squadron, they attacked the ship freely and caused critical damage to multiple systems on Yamato. They were interrupted by Akira Yamamoto and retreated after a brief tactical success. The squadron lost the majority of their planes when refueling and rearming on Lamvea while the carrier was attacked by the Yamato.

At least two Snukas were also seen patrolling Alongside DDG-110 Zedora II Astro Fighters during the Battle of the Imperial Capital. A squadron of Snukas launched from the Special 1st Class Astro Battleship-carrier Deusura III during the Planet Galman Liberation Operation in August 2205. Months later, DMB.87 Snuka Dive Bombers participated in the Iscandar Incident. Nearly the entire squadron was destroyed during the conflict. In October 2207, a squadron of Snukas deployed from Deusura III using instantaneous material transporter to attack Yamato during a misunderstanding after the Dezarian battleship Grodez fires it Infinite β Cannon and destroying the Deusura III's fleet.

 Notes

• The DMB.87 Snuka shares part of its designation and aircraft design with the Junkers Ju 87 Stuka used by the Luftwaffe of Nazi Germany during World War II. Ju 87 D-4 was designed as an aircraft carrier-based dive bomb to be carried by the cancelled aircraft carrier Graf Zeppelin.
