The DBG.88 Garont Astro Heavy Bomber is a 4-seat torpedo bomber used by the military of the Greater Garmillan Empire. It was originally developed as a a civilian transporter for special rock drills.
Armaments and Technical Specifications[]
The DBG.88 Garont was originally developed as a civilian transporter for special rock drills, it was later converted to military use, and was mainly operated behind the frontlines by the Aerospace Combat Engineering Division. The crew consists of 4 people: the bomber commander, the pilot, the co-pilot, and the navigator.[1]
History[]
Originally developed as a civilian transporter, the Garont was at some point converted into a military vehicle, however, after its conversion, it still did not function as a bomber and was only designated as such at the insistence of the Aerospace Combat Engineering Division commander. The division would become the primary user of the Garont, operating it mainly behind the front lines.[1]
During the Battle of the Rainbow Star Cluster a Garont Heavy Bomber commanded by Vance Barlen was deployed from Gelvades-Class Astro Battleship-carrier Darold, it carried a special Rock Drill Missile, a repurposed mining tool that was supposed to be used to sink the earth battleship Yamato. Said Garont was heavily damaged by a pilot of the Yamato squadron and was later saved by the Guipellon-class Multiple Flight Deck Astro Carrier Lamvea. Its crew was rescued but it was ultimately deemed to be damaged beyond repair and it was abandoned.[3][4]
During the Gatlantis Campaign, the Crimson-Camaraderie-Carriers typically carried 3 red-coloured Garont IIs, a variant of the original heavy bomber equipped with a wave-motion excavation warhead,[2] on their superstructure flight decks. Reutilising the unconventional but already tested strategy used by Lt General Erich Domel during the Battle of the Rainbow Star Cluster, they were used during the Final Battle Over Earth to target the Ark of Destruction.[5]
Note[]
- The DBG.88 shares part of its designation with the Junkers JU 88 used by the Nazi Germany during World War II.
