The Crustacean Attack Machine Deathvatator, also called simply the Deathvatator, was the main assault figther of Gatlantis Empire, seeing significant action in the Battle of Shambleau and the Gatlantis Campaign.
Armaments and Technical Specifications[]
The Deathvatator was the Gatlantis Empire's main transatmospheric multi-role fighter. It had an unusual shape, similar to an hermit crab, which gave it a high volume and a large space to store its heavy armament. It was equipped with a rapid-fire rotating turret on its upper surface and 8 machine guns fixed on the front of the hull. It could also carry six air-to-air missiles or large anti-ship missiles. Alternatively, the air-to-air missile pylons on the left and right sides of the fuselage could be used to carry Needleslaves.[5][1]
The Deathvatator's main use was close combat in fleet battles, but it was also frequently used in planetary surfaces where it is difficult to deploy large ships. Its main strength was its ability to respond to such diverse operations.[5]
It was piloted by a crew of three,[1] a pilot, co-pilot, and torpedo bomber.[5]
History[]
In August 2199,[6] approximately thirty six Crustacean Attack Machines Deathvatator, of which twenty-four were carried by Kiska and twelve by Megaruda, served as part of the Gutaba Expedition Group. A squadron launched from Kiska to attack the UNCN battleship Yamato, which was making its return journey to Earth. Several fighters were destroyed. Later, the Deathvatators were launched to attack the Archelian Celestial Ark, Shambleau. They fought an aerial battle against a combined Earth-Garmillas squadron, and all of them were destroyed.[7]
Between 2202 and 2203, hundreds of Deathvatators Fighters participated during the Gatlantis Empire's invasion of the Solar System.[8][2] With the proliferation of the Gaizengan Weapons Group in the last months of the Gatlantis Empire, the role of anti-ship attack was often handed over to the Eater I. The Deathvatators deployed in the last battles of the Gatlantis Campaign were painted black with orange accents. While there were no differences from a standard Deathvatator, the jet-black silhouette brought despair to the people of Earth.[5]
Notes[]
- There has been long-standing confusion over the name “Desbatata” for years it was assumed that the Japanese spelling was a misspelled version of “Devastator.”
- According to 2202 supervising director Nobuyoshi Habara the name probably started out as “Devastator” and was modified into “Death-vatator.”
