The Prototype Carrier-based Tactical Fighter Attack Aircraft Cosmo Tiger I, also called simply the Cosmo Tiger I and proposed as CT-1,[2] is a carrier-based fighter plane used by the United Nations Cosmo Navy, and saw significant action in the Gatlantis Campaign soon after its introduction.

Armament and Technical Spesifications[]

The Cosmo Tiger I was a prototype aircraft competing as the next-generation UNCN mainstay fighter, however, its size and great maneuverability made it difficult to be operated as a carrier-based fighter, and it was rejected in favor of the Cosmo Tiger II.[1]

The Cosmo Tiger I was built as a biplane to allow it to carry a greater number and variety of armaments. The upper wings are forward-swept while the lower ones are swept-back. Additionally, the fighter has a pair of vertical tails at the rear and a pair of canards at the nose. Attitude control nozzles are okaced on each wing tip.[2] On the upper wings, 6 sets of three small missile pods (carrying 24 shots each) and 2 beam cannons are equipped; The lower wing has 2 sets of three small missile pods identical to those on the upper wing and 2 large missile pods (carrying 6 shots each). The fighter itself has no fixed armaments, with all of its weapons being mountable and interchangable.[1] The Cosmo Tiger I can carry up to 588 missiles in its standard configuration.[2]

The Cosmo Tiger I's cockpit has a glass capsule-shaped canopy covering almost the entire surface. This allows the pilot to directly see a wide area, which can be very useful during dogfights, reconnaissance, and patrols. However, this brings certain disadvantages, such as reduced bullet resistance and payload capacity in the nose section.[2] It's fixed on an axis, meaning it remains horizontal even as the aircraft rotates. It can open upwards like a regular cockpit or downwards, by having the pilot seat descend outside of the fighter.[3] Its controls consist of two control sticks equipped with a trigger button and selector switch, one located on the left and one on the right of the pilot's seat. Each conrol stick has a small 10 buttons-keyboard at the base. All instruments are displayed on a large transparent tablet screen placed in front of the seat which is protected by a bullet-proof glass pannel.[4] The cockpit could also detatch from the rest of the plane and serve as an escape pod for the pilot. Its AI could automatically bring the pilot to safety without any imput.[5]

Yamamoto's Cosmo Tiger I

The Cosmo Tiger I was one of the prototypes produced for the CT plan, meant to give birth to the new UNCN mainstay fighter. It was proposed under the codename CT-1.[2] It was conceived as an operational model with a variety of external armament combinations.[2] However, it's high maneuverability made it hard to be operated, and it was rejected as a carrier-based fighter and was instead deployed to the Lunar Base to serve as part of the Lunar Air Corps. A Cosmo Tiger I was chosen by Ensign Akira Yamamoto while she worked as an instructor replacing Lieutenant J.G. Saburo Kato.[1] She used it to assist Lieutenant Kodai Susumu in infiltrating the Garmillas Empire Embassy on the Moon.[6] On December 24, 2202, news of a rebellion initiated the Yamato made many former Yamato pilots go AWOL and join the battleship. Yamamoto brought her Cosmo Tiger I with her, and used it in a face off against Apollo Norm's Air Corps.[7]

The Cosmo Tiger I continued to be used by Yamamoto and saw significant action during the journey to Terezart and the Gatlantis Campaign.[8][9][10] At this time, the fighter was still under test operation and its verification trials were ongoing.[2] At the end of the Golem Assault Battle, it was destroyed, but Yamamoto managed to survive thanks to the cockpit's AI detatching it from the plane.[5][10]

Antares and Apollo Norm were equipped with three Cosmo Tiger Is each during the Battle of Saturn.[11]
