Cosmo Reverse System

Yamato's Cosmo Reverse

The Cosmo Reverse System (C.R.S.),[1] sometimes shortened to Cosmo Reverse, is an Iscandarian Wave-motion Energy control device able to restore life on a range of scales, from individual organisms to whole biospheres. In order for the Cosmo Reverse System to restore life, it must possess memory of said life. It was created by Iscandarian civilization thousands of years before the present. More recently, it became an object of desire for the aristocracy of planet Garmillas and was gifted by Iscandar to the Earth during the Great Garmillas War.

The Cosmo Reverse System is a device capable of controlling Wave-motion Energy. Its primary function is restoring life on a range of scales, from individual organisms to whole biospheres. To do so, it must possess the memory of said life in the form of Wave-motion Energy. Once the memory is installed, the Cosmo Reverse creates an interlocking recursive structure, similar to the Human brain's neural network. A memory can only be used once to restore a life. Once the C.R.S. is activated the memory disappears beyond the quantum sea.[2][3] The C.R.S. has computing abilities much greater than those of the average quantum computer.[4]

Even without the capability of restoring life, the Cosmo Reverse System remains the best device for controlling Wave-motion Energy. It's still capable of boosting the output of multiple Wave-motion Energy-based devices, including the Wave-motion Gun and the Wave-motion Shield, through Wave-motion Resonance. When created through Wave-motion Cores, the resonance generates a massive surge of energy capable of debilitating large numbers of spacecrafts.[5]

Following it being equipped on Ginga, the Cosmo Reverse has consistently rejected and deactivated all weapon systems connected to it or even those in its vicinities. It has also shown the ability of showing vision of the deceased to people. The C.R.S. seems to have a consciousness of its own.[6] Shiro Sanada theorizes that this consciousness enables the C.R.S. to monitor the intentions of those around it and intervene to prevent malicious actions.[7]

History[]

Early history[]

Iscandar WMG

Iscandarian Wave-motion Guns during the empire's campaigns

The Cosmo Reverse System was created thousands of years before the present by Iscandarian civilization. As the Iscandarians led its bloody campaigns throughout the Large Magellanic Cloud, destroying entire civilizations to crystalize and preserve them for eternity in a wave-motion energy state, the Cosmo Reverse was built to ensure that the memories of these civilizations could be used to regenerate them. Eventually, the Iscandarian race, except the royal family, crystalized itself and was interred with the rest of the species they had conquered within an underground vault known as the Sanctel.[8][9]

The Iscandarians decided to enslave a species so that they could fight their campaigns in their stead. They opted for the Galmans, a race incapable of surviving for extended periods away from their home planet's unique ecosystem. They used the CRS to create a perfect copy of planet Galman on Iscandar's twin planet and transferred them.[8]

Garmillas and the Cosmo Reverse[]

Thousands of years later, after Iscandar had given up on its bloody wars to expand Sanktel under Queen Stasha Iscandar, the enslaved species they brought, now called Garmillas, unified under the rule of Grand Duke Erich Vam Desler. The Grand Duke soon discovered that their planet was approaching the end of its life cycle. Unbeknownst to him, this was because Iscadar had used the CRS on a world that had never actually bore life.[10][11]

In the following decades, the aristocrats of Garmillas spearheaded a plan to threaten Iscandar into giving them a Cosmo Reverse System to try and restore their planet. To do so, they secretly built a superweapon inside of their capital. However, this plan was opposed by Abelt Desler, the new Eternal Supreme Leader of the Greater Garmillan Empire, who instead decided to lead a series of expansionary wars in hopes that the empire would encounter and conquer a planet fit for Garmillan emigration.[10][11]

Iscandar and the Yamato Program[]

Stasha's message to the Earthlings

In 2191,[12] the Garmillans discovered planet Earth, which was believed to be a possible candidate for garmillasformation, a process that could turn it into a replica of planet Garmillas. The first step of the process would be to wipe out the entirety of the autochthonous population through the usage of Planet Bombs. From 2192 to 2199, the empire conducted a long-range bombardment of Earth, which completely ruined the planet's biosphere. Once she discovered this, Queen Stasha sent her sister, Yurisha, to Earth, with plans for a Wave-motion Engine that would've allowed the Earthlings to reach Iscandar and retrieve a Cosmo Reverse to heal their planet. In February of 2199, the United Nations launched the space battleship Yamato, which would travel towards the Large Magellanic Cloud and receive the alien device.[13]

During their journey back to Earth, the Yamato crew realized that the CRS also contained the human consciousness of Lt. Commander Mamoru Kodai, a Earthling that had been taken prisoner by Garmillas and had crashlanded on Iscandar where he had died months prior. During the journey, Kodai activated the CRS himself to resuscitate a Yamato crewmember who had been killed in a standoff against Garmillas. This led to the CRS deactivating right before Yamato could use it to restore the Earth. But Kodai knew that as he was activating the device, the battleship's captain, Admiral Juzo Okita, was passing away in his cabin of an illness he had contracted due to the planet bombs. Okita's soul became the element powering the Cosmo Reverse, allowing its reactivation and the salvation of the Earth.[14]

Ginga and Yamato's DNA[]

Four years later, during the Gatlantis Campaign. Yamato's CRS was transferred to the Yamato-class ship Ginga. Initially, the ship had been created as an exploratory vessel but was later rebuilt as a warship. Despite the modifications received, however, the Cosmo Reverse rejected the ship's new armaments, rendering them unusable.[15]

Ginga CRS

During the war, the CRS was used to increase the power of the Earth navy's wave motion shields and to trigger a swarm of mass-produced wave motion cores to incapacitate an enemy fleet. Later, the Ginga crew decided to operate the Cosmo Reverse against the orders of UNCF headquarters to increase the power of the battleship Andromeda's wave motion gun to destroy the Ark of Destruction's gravity core. This allowed Yamato, which had previously been trapped inside the Ark's gravitational field, to escape safely. However, this usage put too much strain on the Cosmo Reverse System, which led to its deactivation.[15][16][17] The Cosmo Reverse was later partially repaired to carry out repairs of the Moon in the post-war period.[18]

Developing new technology[]

By researching the Cosmo Reverse System, the Earth Federation developed the Wave-motion Resonance Waveguide Device, a piece technology capable of transferring Wave-motion Energy through Wave-motion Resonance from one Wave-motion Engine-equipped craft to another. By October 2205,[18] the Wave-motion Resonance Waveguide Device had been equipped on the Asuka.[19]

The Saturn Restoration Project[]

Even after it lost most of its functionality, the Cosmo Reverse continued to block Ginga's weapon systems. However, the ship was assigned as the flagship of the Saturn Restoration Fleet with the difficult task of rearranging the scattered gas that previously made up the ringed planet. To do so, the Cosmo Reverse's outstanding computing capabilities were needed, forcing the Cosmo Force to continue to pay the expenses to maintain it.[4]

In October 2207,[4] during the later stages of the Invasion of the Ground Reverse, Ginga and the Asuka were caught in a pincir attack by a Dezariam Army fleet. Ginga's XO Megumi Kanzaki attempted to shoot the Cosmo Reverse with her handgun to disable it and regain access to the ship's weapons, but the C.R.S. disabled her gun. As Kanzaki pleaded the machine to help her save the people she cared about, even offering her life in exchange, the Cosmo Reverse showed her a vision of her deceased partner and daughter before reactivating. A single shock cannon turret fired, destroying an enemy vessel, before the weapons systems returned to being inoperable.[6]

Notes[]

  • The English dub also shortens its name to Cosmo Reverser.
