The Prototype Space Combat Attack Plane Cosmo Python, also called simply the Cosmo Python, is a trans-atmospheric carrier-based space fighter plane used by the Earth Federation Cosmo Navy.
It saw action in the Iscandar Incident as part of the Hyuga Air Corps. A squadron of Cosmo Pythons is currently equipped on the space battleship Yamato as of the Dezariam Invasion of Earth.
Armaments and Technical Specifications[]
The Cosmo Python is a prototype space combat attack plane developed as a next-generation, multi-role space fighter. It is designed for various purposes, including space dogfights, anti-ship attacks, and reconnaissance,[2] with a strong emphasis on overall striking power.[1]

Diagram showing the Cosmo Python's features and equipment
The aircraft features a three-fuselage structure, with the left and right engine nacelles connected by a tail stabilizer. It also has high-mobility thrusters located in the fore wings. As a result, the aircraft is wider than the Earth Defense Force's primary fighter, the Cosmo Tiger II. For this reason, when docked inside a spaceship’s hangar pallet, the wingtips are positioned in a lowered arrangement.[2]
Each part of the aircraft is designed to be modular and can be adjusted using a joint structure. These components can slide and transform into three optimized modes: normal combat, high mobility, and long-distance cruising.[1] Specifically, in high-mobility mode, the nose unit is retracted, enhancing maneuverability and close-combat performance.[2]
Additionally, the nose section of the aircraft can be detached and used as an escape capsule,[1] which includes a cockpit. This feature works in conjunction with the conventional ejection seat system to improve the pilot's chances of survival. The cockpit doesn't feature a HUD, instead, the pilot is equipped with a wearable Head Mounted Display.[2][3]
The propulsion mechanism uses Intertia Control, based on the Higgs Drive, just like other Earth-made space fighters. It is equipped with two composite radial-flow Cosmo engines, but like the Cosmo Zero, a drive system unit is located at the base of the main wing as an auxiliary unit, ensuring high acceleration and maneuverability.[2]
Additionally, the Cosmo Python is equipped with a Higgs Drive Synchronized Surveillance Radar,[1] which improves synchronization with the Higgs Drive for improved enemy search.[2]
A 57mm positron cannon is installed in the central fuselage, with weapon bays occupying most of the left and right fuselage sections.[1] The positron cannon serves as a large anti-ship gun. In addition to the air-to-air missiles developed for previous models, the weapon bays can also be equipped with high-mobility missiles. These missiles feature thrusters on various parts of their bodies, which enhance their maneuverability. They were developed as new equipment for the Cosmo Python.[2]
The aircraft is capable of carrying missiles externally as well. Its maximum configuration, nicknamed "beast mode" by the air forces, includes the Cosmo Zero's large anti-ship missile, the Cosmo Tiger II's multi-warhead missiles, and the Cosmo Falcon's air-to-air missile mounted on triple pylons.[2]
Stealth performances are improved compared to the previous models thanks to an Active Stealth Field Generator,[3] which deploys a field that jams in all directions, and is installed inside the radomes in various places on the fuselage.[2]
History[]
The Cosmo Python was deployed as a prototype space combat attack plane designed for high-mobility combat. However, piloting it would require significant aptitude and skill to endure high G forces. As a result, the outcomes of its testing are expected to inform not only the development of new models but also future enhancements to the Cosmo Tiger II, which is the Earth Defense Force's mainstay fighter. Since the fighter is experimental, it was not given a year of manufacture.[2]

Cosmo Pythons on the Hyuga's flight deck
In October 2205, at least 16 Cosmo Pythons were placed on Modified Dreadnought-class battle carrier Hyuga and assigned to the Hyuga air corps. One of them was used by Lieutenant Hiroki Shinohara.[4] The Cosmo Pythons of the Hyuga air corps served during the Rescue of Iscandar to protect the Garmillas Immigration Fleet. The fighters were used to distract Dezariam's forces at the Battle in the Vorzon System, Immigrant Fleet Rescue Operation, and the Rescue Operation for Leader Desler.[5][6][7]
After entering mass-production, the Asuka-class was equipped with a squadron that included Cosmo Pythons, whose number could change depending on the kind of mission. The Cosmo Pythons carried by the carrier Asuka were transferred to the Yamato in the aftermath of the Battle in the 11th Planet Sector, after the Special Task Force Under the Commander split up.[8]
