Two identical clones serving in the Garmillas Empire's Imperial Guard in 2199
A clone is an individual produced from one template to which they are genetically identical. Cloning technology is used by various powers by the 23rd century, including Garmillas and Gatlantis.
Cloning in Garmillas[]

Paren Nelge, a clone Captain in the Imperial Guard
In the Greater Garmillan Empire, cloning was implemented by the Imperial Guard to create cloned soldiers. At its inception, the guard struggled to find pure-blooded Garmillan recruits among the youth of the empire's citizens, due to most of them being recruited into the regular military. To avoid having to recruit alien citizens, Imperial Guard Race Main Office made the decision of selecting its best soldiers from every rank, from executive to general officers, and cloning them to provide fleet personnel.[1] These cloned soldiers were organized by class rather then simply by rank, with certain classes of clones occupying higher ranks by default.[1][2][3] One such example were Paren and Dora Nelge, two clone officers that both served as Captains.[4]
Garmillan clones could apparently develop at a faster rate.[1][2][5]
Even after the guard's seeming dissolution after the fall of the Desler administration, clone soldiers continued to serve in the Desler Regime Revivalists[6] and in the Desler fleet.[7]
Cloning in Gatlantis[]
For this topic in more detail, see Gatlanteans (2199).

The Gatlantis were an artificial human species created by the Zemurians, capable of reproduction only through cloning.[8][9] The society of the Gatlantis Empire operated on a system where younger clones, known as larva bodies, replaced their adult counterparts and inherited their name once they came of age.[10] There were different types of clones, such as Type Gorland[11] and Type Zworder, each serving a specific role.[9] For instance, Type Zworder clones are designed with enhanced memory and psychic capabilities,[9] and functioned as the empire's Emperors and Chief Intelligence Archivists.[12]
Gatlantean clones were created as babies, and then grew into adults at a regular rate.[11]

A Calaklum Class Great Battleship, a Gaizengan Weapon
By the year 2202, after the Invasion of Planet Terezart, the Gatlantis Empire had developed the Gaizengan Weapons—a series of bio-technological[13] ship classes grown using the same technology that created Gatlantean clones. Utilizing antimatter energy, these clones were transformed into warships, which were produced inside the Ark of Destruction, allowing Gatlantis to field millions of ships.[14][15]
Manga[]
In the Space Battleship Yamato 2199 manga adaptation by Michio Murakawa, cloning technology is used on Earth. Lieutenant Yuki Mori is a somatic cell clone of the Iscandarian Princess Yurisha Iscandar. She was created in 2198, and developed into an adult by the beginning of 2199.[16]
Warrant Officer Toru Hoshina is a high-grade military clone created for Project Izumo. According to Lt. J.G. Shinya Itou, clones lack heart and have a void within them that they seek to fill, which he finds pathetic.[17]

Paren Nelge and all other clone soldiers are fully adults by the time of their appearance the year 2199, meaning Garmillan clones must develop at a faster rate.
