The Central Army was a branch of the Imperial Garmillas Defense Force. During the Desler administration, Imperial Marshall Herm Zoellik served as Inspector General of the Central Army, His enormous influence over military affairs effectively gave him control not only over his own branch, but also over officers in the Astro Fleet, making him the second-most influential person in the Greater Garmillan Empire after Supreme Leader Abelt Desler himself.
Organization[]
Imperial Marshall Herm Zoellik served as Inspector General of the Central Army
The Central Army was headed by an Inspector General a position occupied for most of the Desler administration by Imperial Marshall Herm Zoellik. Under the Inspector General stood the Conscription Office and the Orbital Astro Force, the Central Army's field division.[3]
The Orbital Astro Force was itself composed of various units, most notably the Homeland Defense Fleet, also known as the Inner Planetary Defense Fleet, one of the few fleets organized outside of the Imperial Astro Fleet, which later fell under the Imperial Guard's control after Zoellik's execution.[3]
History[]
Zoellik's address to his troops was interrupted by the still-alive Abelt Desler
The Central Army was headed by Imperial Marshall Herm Zoellik, one of the most influential individuals within the Greater Garmillan Empire. Due to his noble heritage, Zoellik had control of a vast faction within the armed forces, which he tried to expand further by suggesting Major General Gremdt Goer as Galactic Theater Operation Commander.[4] Zoellik's ultimate plot was to take control of the empire for himself and restore the nobility, which had lost its privileges after Eternal Supreme Leader Abelt Desler's rise to power.[1][5]
In 2199, the Marshall attempted to assassinate the Supreme Leader.[2] He then gathered a large fleet of warships under the guise of a naval review to incite them against the government. His treason was exposed by the still-alive Desler, who survived the attempt on his life and publicly denounced the traitor's ambitions to the troops gathered. Zoellik was promptly executed by Goer himself.[6]
Following the Inspector General's death, the Central Army's control of its own forces began to whine, with the Imperial Guard gaining control over the Homeland Defense Fleet. When Astro Fleet Colonel General Domel asked the Central Army to grant him a fleet to stop the advance of a Terran vessel, the Imperial Guard provided him with a flotilla of merely four carriers.[7]
