Disambiguation:

The Bolar Federation, also referred to simply as Bolar (ボ ラ ー, Borā), is a vast interstellar nation that governs various human species and rules over a large portion of the Milky Way Galaxy. Bolar is an old interstellar nation, with the current federal state being a successor to the Bolar Empire.

The federation is a totalitarian state under the dictatorial regime of High Commissioner Belm von Bemlarze.

Currently, Bolar is in conflict with the interstellar nation of Galman-Garmillas, and has growing tensions with a neighbouring power in the Milky Way, as well as an ally of the Galmans, the Earth Federation.

History[]

Early history[]

The Bolar Federation was founded some time around 2177, when Belm von Bemlarze led a revolutionary struggle against the previous conservative faction of the Bolar Empire and took power as High Commissioner.[1] Since before the founding of the federation, the Bolars had known of the Witch of Uralia and suffered from the cosmic cooling phenomenon it caused.[6]

The Bolar Federation expanded, creating a vast territory. Around 2155,[7] it invaded planet Galman and enslaved the local population, leading to a drastic decrease in their numbers. By 2205, the Bolar Federation Perpetual Administration Bureau had appointed Vilke Boroze as Garmann's Governor-General.[8]

Tensions with Garmillas and Earth[]

In August of that year,[9] Boroze led negotiations with the Desler fleet, which asked for the acquisition of Galman on behalf of the Greater Garmillan Empire, in exchange for eternal friendship between it and the Bolar Federation. When Boroze refused the offer, the Desler fleet took over the planet by force and expelled Boroze and his delegation.[8] Tensions grew steadily between Bolar and Galman-Garmillas, the successor state of the Greater Garmillan Empire. Galman and the Sagittarius Dwarf Galaxy at large were important sources of food production for Bolar,[10] which led the federation to launch a fierce counterattack.[11]

Now demoted to political officer, Boroze also led routine territorial incursions in the territory of the Earth Federation, an allied country of Galman-Garmillas.[5]

In October of 2207, while in the midst of an incursion, Boroze's fleet encountered the Dezariam space fortress Ground Reverse. Believing to have encountered the Light of the Witch of Uralia, Boroze reported to the homeland, and Bemlarze and First Secreatary Darya gave him command of a number of ships to invade the Earth Federation and find more about what had happened. However, the fleet was rapidly intercepted by the Dezariam battleship Grodez and was wiped out.[5][12]

Around two weeks later,[13] Bolar sent a fleet toward planet Galman, but an elite force led by Garmillan major Fomt Berger, headed toward the galactic core, intercepted them.[14]

Attacks against Galman[]

Later that year, the Bolar Federation compelled Grand Duke Ram Ra-Jendra, ruler of the federal member state of Berth, to lead an attack on the holy city of Luda, the capital of Galman-Garmillas.[15] After Ram’s initial assault failed, the Perpetual Administration Bureau authorized the deployment of a Brol Borana-type Planet Destroyer Missile against Galman and requested that the Grand Duke provide the self-destruct code for his flagship, Ra-Jendra, which had been captured and anchored near the Galman-Garmillas capital.[16]

Planet Berth had recently[6] been affected by the cosmic cooling phenomenon, making it dependent on the larger federation for survival.[15] Despite this, Ram refused to permit the destruction of planet Galman and disclosed Bolar’s plan to Supreme Leader Desler of Galman-Garmillas. This enabled the Galman-Garmillas Forces to intercept and destroy the Planet Destroyer Missile.[17]

Alternate history[]

According to the history recounted by Dezariam holy leader Skulldart, the original timeline before Dezariam's interventions in 2205 and 2207 unfolded as follows: the Galman-Garmillas Empire, which was the successor to the Garmillas Empire in this timeline, declared war on the Bolar Federation in 2213. Bolar would then declare war on the Earth Federation in 2215, marking the beginning of the First Intergalactic War.[12]

It would then create the Perseus Treaty Organization, a international military alliance, in 2237. the Second Intergalactic War then started in 2241, and the Earth Federation declared war on Bolar in 2252. The conflict would end with a ceasefire mediated by Iscandar in 2266. In 2357, the Bolar Federation led an attack on Garmillas and Iscandar, destroying both planets.[12]

A period of riots and uprisings known as the Spring of Bolar would start in the year 2430 with the Zespaze Riots. The Bolar Federation finally collapsed in 2431, leading to the start of the Galactic Civil War.[12]

Government and Politics[]

The Bolar Federation is an interstellar federal state governed under a totalitarian dictatorship.[3][2] High Commissioner Belm von Bemlarze, the federation's founder and the chair of the High Committee, is the head of state and holds absolute authority. He is supported by the federal government, and Lyudmi Darya, the First Secretary, who functions as one of the most influential figures within the regime. Although Darya faces internal political rivals, no member of the government possesses sufficient power to directly challenge her position.[1][18]

Each constituent state of the federation maintains a limited degree of autonomy within the federal structure. Member states include the Planet-State of Berth, which has its own internal head of state and military forces.[19] The Federation is centered around the Bolar Main Planet,[15] located in the Bolar system.[6]

The Bolar Federation Perpetual Administration Bureau functions as a central administrative body responsible for appointing Governors-General[8] and for formulating plans related to warship development and strategic resource allocation.[20]

Society and Culture[]

The Bolar Federation is inhabited by various ethnicity and species. Although the term "Bolars" refers to the federation's dominant species, it's also used to refer to all citizens of the federation who subscribe to the state ideology of Bolarism.[21]

Language[]

For this topic in more detail, see Bolar (language)

The Bolar Federation speaks a language[22] called Bolar,[23] which features its own script. This language has two written forms that differ based on the level of formality.[24] Its script resembles that of the Earth language Japanese (specifically old Japanese),[25] while its pronunciation is similar to Lithuanian.[26] However, the pronounciation ultimately varies given the Bolar Federation evolved by assimilating numerous planetary civilizations.[27]

Behind the scenes[]

The Bolar Federation is the remake series' version of the nation of the same name from Space Battleship Yamato III. Notably, remake Bolar appears before its original counterpart does, in Yamato 2205, the remake series of The New Voyage.

Yuka Minagawa has specified that the Bolar Federation is not a communist state.[2]
