The Desler Fleet imposed a blockade on Terezart immediately after the planet's liberation from the Gatlantis Empire at the hands of the battleship Yamato. Supreme Leader Abelt Desler planned to use the planet as a bargaining chip with Emperor Zworder, hoping the Gatlantean sovereign would aid him in regaining his long-lost throne on Garmillas. Simultaneously, he wanted to sieze the power of the goddess Teresa for himself and use it to restore his authority over the Greater Garmillan Empire.[5][3]

Prelude[]

In 2202, Ranhardt Desler, nephew of the fallen Supreme Leader of the Greater Garmillan Empire, Abelt Desler, had joined the ranks of the Desler Regime Revivalists as part of an undecover mission on behalf of the Garmillan secret service to find out the identity of the mysterious mastermind behind their operations. To gain their trust, he boarded the Earthling battleship Yamato under the alias of Lieutenant Klaus Keyman, and had infected the battleship's engine with the Anti Wave-motion Lattice, a device which, when activated, could turn off any wave-motion energy-based engine.[3][6]

In March of 2203,[1] the Gatlantis Empire's occupational forces on Terezart were wiped out by Yamato during the Terezart Landing Operation. Supreme Leader Desler, who had cut ties with Gatlantis in the aftermath of the Battle in Subspace, and had been joined by a large fleet of supporters who had defected from the ranks of the Imperial Garmillas Defense Force and of the Imperial Guard, took the occasion to take control of the mystical planet. His objective was to use it as a bargaining chip with the Gatlantean Emperor Zworder, to blackmail the sovereign into aiding him in restoring his authority over Garmillas.[5][3][7][8][9]

The Blockade[]

Desler's return[]

Yamato's tactics officer, Susumu Kodai, and a small landing team had reached the Terezarium, the sanctuary of the goddess Teresa, to discuss with her the battleship's journey to planet Terezart. Their meeting was interrupted by Desler and a squadron of Needleslaves, who seized the room and took those in it, including the goddess, hostage. At the same time, Desler's fleet, headed by Lieutenant General Ghader Talan, took control of the planet.[5]

Yamato's commander, Admiral Ryu Hijikata, was unable to contact Kodai's team or 7th Space Cavalry Regiment Deputy Commander Shiori Nagakura, who had been missing since the end of the previous battle. By confronting the IDs of the enemy ships with those in Garmillas' official registries, Lieutenant Keyman discovered that the fleet confronting them had left Garmillas in the aftermath of Desler's dethronement four years prior. Communications chief Yoshikazu Aihara realized that meant the enemy wasn't aware of the communication lines Garmillas had shared with the Earth Federation in the past years. He used them to rewrite the Garmillans' IFF signals, giving Keyman a 30-second window to reach the Terezarium to contact Kodai without being noticed. As the Lieutenant departed, Yamato opened hostilities with the fleet to draw their attention away. The battleship rushed at its enemy, sinking three Kelkapia cruisers in the opening salvo. It then faced off directly against Talan's flagship, sliding underneath it and heavily damaging it with its anti-air pulse laser guns, before flying beyond it and escaping, while being pursued by Desler's Neu Deusura. The Leader's flagship fired multiple Gorland missiles at Yamato, but they were all intercepted.[5]

At the same time, Nagakura stormed the Terezarium in her mobile armor, facing off against the Needle Slaves. Kodai managed to sneak behind Desler and took him hostage at gunpoint. The officer ordered the Supreme Leader to withdraw from the planet, but Desler refused, stating that his Needle Slaves only stood down because Kodai had put a gun to his head. If he was to actually get shot and killed, the androids would have no problem gunning down the Terrans in retaliation. The stalemate was broken by Keyman rushing in aboard his Czvarke fighter and destroying all remaining Needle Slaves with Nagakura and Space Cavalry Commander Hajime Saito' help.[5]

Keyman introduced himself to his uncle, revealing his true identity. He asked the Supreme Leader for confirmation on the rumor about planet Garmillas incoming demise, deducing that must have been the guiding principle behind Desler's actions as dictator of the empire. Saito tried to step in, but Keyman pointed his gun at him, before turning it on Kodai and shooting him in his helmet, knocking him unconscious.[5]

Klaus Keyman's loyalties[]

After shooting Kodai, Keyman activated the Anti Wave-motion Lattice, causing Yamato's engine to deactivate and making the battleship crashland into the ocean, before leaving the Terezarium and boarding Neu Deusura. He claimed that he had boarded Yamato to sabotage it when the time was right and that he had always been loyal to the Supreme Leader. Kodai and his team were also taken prisoner aboard the battleship.[3]

The defenseless Yamato was surrounded by Desler's forces, and, with Terezart firmly under his control, Desler freed the Gatalntean Mil from his cell to make him contact Zworder. Meanwhile, Keyman informed the Revivalists of Desler's reappearance. The information was relayed to the Revivalists' secretive Supreme Leader, Hydom Gimleh, former director of the Imperial Guard, who hailed Desler's flagship directly to organize a revolt on Garmillas and reinstate the Supreme Leader.[3]

Keyman now had all of the information he needed to complete his mission, however, he was conflicted over whether to actually betray his uncle in favor of the democratic faction. After consulting with Teresa, he ultimately decided to follow his original plan and contacted his superior to give him all the intel he had gathered about the Revivalists while staying with Desler, including Gimleh's identity and position. On April 2,[2] he deactivated the Anti Wave-motion Lattice, allowing Yamato to move once more, and liberated the Terrans from their cells. The group made their way through Neu Deusura's corridors, fighting against the multiple Gami-loids kept aboard. They set up a series of explosives around the hangar's entrance, before stealing a landing ship to escape toward Yamato. Keyman remained behind to guide the others out of the hangar, and as he was leaving aboard his Czvarke, he was shot by Mil. However, before the Gatlantean could finish the job, Keyman activated the previously set-up explosives and used them to cover his escape. Injured, the Lieutenant wasn't able to reach Yamato, and his plane crashed into Terezart's ocean, but he was rescued by Ensign Yamamoto of the Yamato squadron.[3]

With Keyman safely aboard Yamato, the battleship ready to take off toward the Earth, and Desler at the head of his fleet, all the pieces were now in place for Teresa's plans for the future to be realized. Planet Terezart itself was rendered intangible by the goddess, and Yamato began its return journey back to the Earth.[3]

Aftermath[]

Gimleh's arrest

Gimleh is arrested by the National Security Police

Teresa had entrusted Yamato with the mission to defeat the Gatlantis Empire, which was on its way toward the Solar system to wage total war against the Earth Federation. Keyman, despite having ultimately decided to join the Terrans on their mission, insisted on being detained in the battleship's brig, still deeming himself a traitor. He would remain there for the majority of the battleship's journey back toward the Earth. Despite having been deactivated, the Anti Wave-motion Lattice couldn't be fully removed from Yamato's engine. The ship's technical officer, Shiro Sanada, planned to use it to boost Yamato's Wave-motion Gun's output in the coming battle against Gatlantis.[3][4]

Keyman's report gave the Garmillas National Security Police enough information to find and capture Gimleh, collapsing the Revivalist faction. Without any other ally to return to, Desler was forced to side with Gatlantis once more, under the promise they would gift the Garmillans with a new planet in place of the dying Garmillas.[3][4]
