The Battle of the Rainbow Star Group was a pivotal battle between Gamilas Empire forces and the Earth Defense Force space battleship Yamato early in the year 2200, fought just outside the Large Magellanic Cloud. The battle involved four ships on the Gamilas side, commanded by the notable General Domel, against the lone EDF ship Yamato, commanded by Captain Juzo Okita. In this brutal battle, all four Gamilas ships were destroyed, with the loss of all hands. While Yamato survived to win the battle, the ship was severely damaged, with the crew taking dozens of casualties. The Earth crew took weeks to repair their ship before they could resume, and soon complete, their journey to the planet Iscandar ("Desperate Challenge from Domel's Fleet!", "Decisive Battle! Fight for Honor at the Rainbow Star Group!").
