The last battle in the Hunt for the World of Tranquillity took place on Shambleau. It was the first battle where Earthlings and Garmillans fought side by side in a significant way. It caused the destruction of the Gutaba Expedition Group and the reawakening of the Ark of the Stars.[1]

Prelude[]

After encountering the Earthling battleship Yamato on August 27, 2199,[2] the Gatlantis Empire's Gutaba Expedition Group, led by Grand Chief Commissioner Goran "Thunderclap" Dagam, traced its warp signature. This took the fleet to the the Archelian ark Shambleau, which Dagam had been ordered to locate by the Gatlantean Great Emperor Zworder.[1]

Both the Yamato and the Garmillas 8th Security Fleet had also found the planet, and had sent recon teams to its surface. The two groups, led by Lieutenant Susumu Kodai and Lt. Commander Fomt Berger, were trapped on the planet by a group of Zirellan pilgrims dwelling there, but had managed to settle their differences and made peace with their captors.[1]

As Dagam began bombing Shambleau's protective layer, the two groups returned to their respective ships and began planning a counterattack. Kodai took command of the Yamato as acting captain, while Berger assumed leadership of the 8th Security Fleet in place of its commanding officer, Colonel Neredia Ricke, who stayed behind aboard the damaged carrier Lamvea.[1]

The battle[]

Initial fighting[]

As the Gutaba Expedition Group formed a blockade around Shambleau, the Yamato and the 8th Security Fleet began a joint effort to defend the planet. Both deployed their full fighter complement to intercept the Kiska Strike Force, a Gatlantean carrier group led by the Nazca-class carrier Kiska that was closing in from their right flank. As figthers from both sides engaged in a dogfight in Shambleau's rings, the joint fleet advanced to meet Dagan's main force frontally.[1]

The Gatlantean flagship Megaruda fired its Flame Strike Gun to attack the joint fleet from afar, with the first barrage destroying the battleship-carrier Nirvales along with two other ships. However, thanks to the calculations of Yamato's Executive Officer Shiro Sanada, all ships managed to predict the weapon's trajectory when it fired again, thus rendering it useless at long distance.[1]

Suddenly, Shambleau began reactivating, and its surface transformed as the world assumed its original shape. Lamvea remained trapped in the moving surface, unable to break free due to its previous damage.[1]

At the same time, Dagam was contacted by Imperial Chief Minister Sifar Saberah, who requested he stopped his attack so as to not damage the planet. After being mocked by his superior, Dagam broke off communications and resumed his attack, ordering the Kiska Strike Force and the rest of the fleet to coordinate to surround the enemy. The two sides engaged in an intense firefight and both took heavy loses. The carrier Kiska and its escorts were ambushed by the combined air squadron, and the battle turned against Dagam's fleet when the Flame Strike Cannon was hit and went offline.[1]

Dagam leaves the field[]

In frustration, the Grand Chief Commissioner broke away from the fleet and led the Megaruda directly towards Shambleau, hoping to seize its core. As the Gatlantean chain of command broke down and their forces fell into disarray, captain Isla "Gale" Paracas of the Kiska assumed command of the surviving ships and attampted to send a withdraw order. However, the Kiska was attacked by the enemy fire and was heavily damaged.[1]

At Berger's request, the Yamato broke off to pursue the Megaruda and stop it from destroying the Lamvea, which was stranded on its descend path. Berger led the Mirangal and the remaining Garmillas forces in a last attack against the Gatlantean formation, resulting in the complete destruction of both sides.[1]

Yamato vs megaluda

Pushing its engines at maximum speed, Yamato caught up with Megaruda. Dagam jettisoned the Flame Strike Cannon to destroy the enemy ship, but the Yamato managed to evade it. It then fired its rocket anchor at the Megaruda, deviating it from its course. Kodai then ordered to reel in the anchor, pushing the two battleships closer, before switching to close-quarter combat and riddling Megaruda with Yamato's anti-aircraft guns. The Yamato then pulled up in front of the enemy ship and finished it off with two barrages of Type-3 nuclear fusion shells before it could respond to its fire, .inking the flagship[1]

The shockwave produced by Megaruda's explosion broke section of Shambleau's surface, freeing the Lamvea.[1]

Aftermath[]

By the end of the battle only the Lamvea and Yamato were left, with the entirety of the 8th Security Fleet including the Mirangal destroyed, but Berger miraculously still alive. Fully awakened to its original form as the Celestial Ark, Shambleau began roaming the universe.[1]

The Earthlings and Garmillan crews exchanged a brief farewell salute, and the traditional song "muss i denn" was played over the communication channel by Admira Juzol Okita, Yamato's incapacitated commanding officer. The Lamvea left for planet Garmillas, and Yamato resumed its journey toward the Milky Way Galaxy and Earth.[1]

Years later, in December 2202, Emperor Zworder and his court reviewed footage from the battle over Shambleau to find out out more about the Yamato as the battle of the eleventh planet raged on.[4]
