A battle took place on Kappadokia during the Hunt for the World of Tranquillity, the first one ever fought between Gatlantis and the Earth. Grand Chief Commissioner Goran "Thunder" Dagam encountered the Earthling space battleship Yamato during her journey back to the Earth from Iscandar, he knew the ship as the one that had brought the Greater Garmillan Empire to its knees and sought to capture its Wave Motion Gun to gift it to Emperor Zworder of Gatlantis.[1]

Prelude[]

In August 2199,[3] Governor Dagam moved his forces to the Large Magellanic Cloud in search of the archelian ark Shambleau. He had heard of Yamato's existance from leaked information from the Greater Garmillan Empire.[4]

The Battle[]

Dagam Threatens Yamato

Dagam gives his ultimatum

Dagam's forces encountered Yamato while the ship was on her return trip from Iscandar, on August 27.[2] The Kiska Strike Corps under the command of Isla "Gale" Paracas attacked first sending with a squadron of seven Deathvatators, which Yamato rapidely destroyed. Having identified the enemy Paracas sent visuals of to the Governor's flgship Megaruda.

Dagam moved in with the bulk of his fleet and contacted the earthling battleship directly. He gave a brief ultimatum to Lieutenant Kodai Susumu, tactics officer of Yamato, they were to surrender and hand over the ship or die in battle, as Dagam put it "there could be no peace".

Kodai ordered Yamato to move towards the nearby freefloating planet Kappadokia to escape the enemy fire. The gatlanteans sent forward another squadron of 6 Deathvatators followed by 5 Kukulcan-class destroyers and the Lascaux-class Gliade. Yamato was hit on the hull by a Kukulcan and subsequently raised her Wave Motion Shield to avoid further demage.

Dagam ordered to fire at the enemy with Megaruda's Flame Strike Gun, when Gliade entered Megaruda's line of fire the governor general coldly refused to wait for a new set of cordinates to be inserted in the Gun and ordered to fire immediately, destroying the allied cruiser. Yamato however menaged to not be hit directly and moved to Kappadokia's surface to hide in the planet's complex cave system. The gatlantean Chief Commander ordered the remaining cruisers to fire at the enemy's propulsion systems and force them to make a soft landing so that they could easily attack them with ground troops.

However the energy blasts from the gatlantean ships hit the dens of an autochthonous of jellyfish-like species known as Medulas,[5] which reawakened from their dormant state and began attacking both sides. The creatures started feeding themselves by absorbing the ships' energy and causing them to crash on the planet.

Under suggestion from Yamato's XO Shiro Sanada the ship emergency warped away to get rid of the creatures. This way the earthling ship was capable of escaping the pursuing gatlantean forces.[1]

Aftermath[]

Either due to the warp's energy or the explosion of the Medulas an enormous explosion wrecked a good portion of Kappadokia's surface, creating a ring around the planet.

Sabera Dagam

Saberah threatens Dagam

Sometime after the battle Dagam was contacted by the Prime Minister of Gatlantis Sifar Saberah. She reprimanded him for not having made any progress in his search for the World of Tranquillity and when the governor tried to soothe her by offering her to capture Yamato instead, the prime minister quickly shut him down stating that Shambleau was the only thing the Emperor cared about. Before ending the communication Saberah gave an ultimatum, Dagam was to complete his mission or die to amend his failure. Despite the threats he recieved Dagam decided to pursue Yamato instead by tracing the ship's warp signature, dismissing Saberah and stating that he didn't care about her orders.

In an incredible stroke of luck Yamato's emergency warp had lead them directly to Shambleau and had left the ship stranded there with the garmillan 8th Security Fleet, there the earthlings and the garmillans joined together in the Battle of Shambleau to defend the artificial world.[1]
