Space Battleship Yamato Wiki

Disambiguation:

The Arizona (BB-101) is an Arizona Class Space Battleship of the Earth Federation Cosmo Navy currently in construction in Earth's New Capital. The ship first began construction during the Garmillas War as part of the North American District's contribution to the Earth Evacuation Plan. Its development froze after Program Yamato was drafted, but years later, the Earth Federation refitted it into a warship under the Fourth Defense Plan.

In October of 2207, during the Dezariam Invasion of Earth, the Arizona was used by the Partisans to carry out a diversory attack on the Dezariam space fortress Ground Reverse in the Rebellion Operation.

History[]

Early development[]

The ship that would eventually become the Arizona began its development in the late 2190s in the United Nations' North American District. The ongoing Garmillas War had rendered the surface of planet Earth uninhabitable, and the contamination caused by the planet bombs used by Garmillas had gradually penetrated the underground cities that held the last surviving remnants of mankind. In response, the UN drafted the Earth Evacuation Plan, which called for each district to construct a space emigration vessel to abandon the dying planet.[2]

The plans to abandon the Earth were scrapped in favor of Program Yamato

In 2198, the United Nations came into contact with Princess Yurisha of Iscandar, who provided the necessary plans to construct a Wave-motion Engine and promised the Cosmo Reverse System, a device capable of healing the Earth’s ruined biosphere. Based on Yurisha's plans, the construction of all emigration ships was halted, and personnel and supplies were redirected to Program Yamato in the Far-East District.[2]

At the time of abandonment, the inner hull of the North American migration ship was almost complete.[2]

Construction resumed[]

Following the Gatlantis Campaign and the collapse of the time fault, the Earth Federation drafted the Fourth Defense Plan. Under this new defense strategy, opposition to the development of new battleship classes grew, leading to a reconsideration of repurposing old immigrant ships as an alternative. This shift was partially influenced by the performance of the space battleship Yamato, which was originally developed as an escape ship for the Far East and whose interior hull had been designed as a remarkably robust residential block. Among the ships whose construction resumed was the North American District's vessel, named "Arizona." Construction of the Arizona began at the North American Space Naval Shipyards. Although some aspects of the basic design were modified, the initial design concept remained intact.[2]

After completing the pre-outfitting stage, the Arizona was moved to the New Capital for trial operations. It was stationed at a shipyard owned by Nanbu Heavy Industries, where it underwent outfitting work.[2]

The Rebellion Operation[]

For this topic in more detail, see Rebellion Operation.

In October 2207, Dezariam, a nation that had originated from Earthlings in the 32nd century, traveled back in time and took control of Earth. To prevent terrorist attacks in the New Capital, the warships under construction had their Wave-Motion Cores removed, including that of the Arizona.[4] However, the battleship's backup power source remained intact, allowing it to draw power from the shipyard.[1]

Taking advantage of this, the Partisans—a group of military members opposed to Dezariam's occupation— used the Arizona's shock cannons to carry out a diversionary attack on the Ground Reverse, a space fortress that served as Dezariam's headquarters on Earth. Although the cannon fire could not penetrate the fortress's phase armor, the Partisans' goal was not to breach the fortress itself, but to strike the ground beneath it, intending to make the fortress sink into the Earth and enable an invasion from below.[1]

While the diversionary attack was successful, the overall operation ultimately failed.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The Arizona is the counterpart to the battleship of the same name that appeared in Space Battleship Yamato III. Both versions are ships built in North America. However, in Be Forever Yamato: REBEL 3199, the Arizona is depicted as a migratory vessel that has been converted into a battleship.[2] In contrast, the original series featured the Arizona as an exploratory battleship designed to find a suitable planet for human emigration.[5]

Arizona first teaser

Teaser of the Arizona's appearance in the remake series from the official website

The Arizona made its debut in the remake series during the eighth episode of Star Blazers REBEL 3199, which aired on April 11, 2025.[1] Its inclusion in the series had been confirmed two years earlier, when the first version of the official website for the series was launched on May 15, 2023. The website showcased a sketch of the front half of the Arizona.[6]

Unlike the front half, which remains substantially unchanged from the original series, the back portion of the remake Arizona is different. The distance between the bridge and the base was shortened, while the distance between it and the antennas is extended. Additionally, the second bridge is turned into a weapon launch port.[1]
