The Alteria Suppression,[4] also known as the Planet Alteria Scorched Earth Operation,[5] was a response to the Uprising on Planet Alteria[6] and one of the most destructive acts the Imperial Guard committed near the end of Desler's regime .
Prelude[]
After word spread of Space Battleship Yamato's existance, and how a ship from a planet being invaded by the Empire had caused so much trouble for the Imperial Garmillas Defense Force, many worlds began revolting against Garmillas and Desler. Prior to the First Battle against Domel. The population of Alteria began an uprising.[1]
The assault[]

When the rebellion began, many Garmillans were forced to evacuate as the natives began taking their planet back, encircling the colonial capital, however many weren't able to escape. The planet's Consul, Liber Droppe, escaped the planet and requested aid. Director General Hydom Gimleh of the Imperial Guard led the Guards Astro Fleet to deal with the rebellion.[1]
Gimleh met Droppe aboard his flagship, and after hearing his pleas for aid in defending the remaining Garmillans on the planet, he instead ordered the governor to be killed.[1]
The Alterian Hill tribe is wiped out
The fleet moved in to bombing position as interplanetary missiles began raining down on the planet killing the celebrating Alterians. After the initial strike multiple Pormelia-class carriers fired upon the surface cities while squadrons of fighters wiped out smaller, more remote groups. In a matter of minutes a once blue world had been largely burnt.[1]

This event caused a rift in Garmillas leadership between those who thought they were being to brutal and those who didn't. The brutality of his actions led to Gimleh gaining the moniker of "Butcher of Alteria".[4][1]
Some Alterians survived, with many of them being imprisoned on Prison Planet 17 by July. They would be freed during the Uprising on Prison Camp 17.[7]

- The Space Battleship Yamato 2199 manga specifies that there were 80,000 Garmillas immigrants on Alteria during the bombing.[8]
