The 8th Security Fleet was a security fleet of the Imperial Garmillas Defense Force which operated under the command of Colonel Neredia Ricke. In August 2199, it met the heavily demaged carrier Lamvea to inform the crew of the fact that the war between Garmillas and the Earth had reached an end. The fleet was later lured to the mysterious planet of Shambleau and found itself entangled in a brief conflict against the Gatlantean Gutaba Expedition Group.[3]

History[]

Following the signing of a peace agreement between the Greater Garmillan Empire provisional government and the Earthling space battleship Yamato, the Great Garmillas War that had lasted for almost a decade seemingly came to an end.[5]

Neredia and Berger

Ricke tries to reason with Berger

In August 2199,[1] the 8th Security Fleet was tasked with bringing the news to the Garmillan carrier Lamvea, previously part of the Domel Task Force headed by Lieutenant General Elk Domel, and now under the command of acting captain Fomt Berger. Despite being a close friend and former lover of Colonel Rilke, the 8th Security Fleet's commander, Berger refused to stand down and expressed his desire to continue his pursuit of Yamato as he couldn't forgive the battleship for the death of Domel.[6][7] Unbeknownst to Berger the sector of space in which they were currently staying was close to the location of the mysterious planet Shambleau which was the current home of a group of Zirellan pilgrims who, presumably perceiving the Garmillans as a threat, lured them to their world and remotely took control of their ships, leaving them trapped in Shambleau's orbit without any way to escape.[3]

Yamato and the 8th Security Fleet engage Gatlantis at Shambleu

Berger decided to guide a recon team to the planet's surface, but he remained trapped there by the Zirellans together with a group of crewmates from Yamato, which had been left stranded on Shambleau in a similar series of events.[3]

As soon as Berger's team and the earthlings menaged to resolve their hostilities and convince the Zirellans to free them, the Gatlantean forces of the Gutaba Expedition Group lead by Grand Chief Commissioner Goran "Thunderclap" Dagam arrived on the planet with the intention of capturing it. Lt. Commander Berger then took command of the 8th Security Fleet from the bridge of the Mirangal and lead it a joint operation with Yamato to protect Shambleau. By the end of the battle both Dagam's fleet and the 8th were completely destroyed, but Yamato and Lamvea menaged to continue their journey.[3]
